If you can't go to India, and you can't get to East 7th Street in NYC, then trot your little hoofies down to the grocer's Asian food section (India is South Asia), and look for Patak's brand of simmering sauces. We've tried just about all of them, and not a one was disappointing. In general, these sauces are balanced, flavorful, and authentic, and tempered to the medium heat preference.If you can't find it, order it here. You'll be glad you did. I ordered it for a friend who has fallen in love with the Rogan Josh flavor, but you'll have great fun, and great meals, trying them all. Namaste.

I thought that in the age of online shopping, I could pretty much expect any vendor to package their items properly. That said, I can give this sauce 3 out of 5 stars as a mediocre curry dinner base, and 0 out of 5 stars as a packing material. Don't expect it to taste like a restaurant's curry: it's more of a ketchup with curry added. Also, be careful of broken glass when disposing of said packing material.Don't be surprised if half of the jars you ordered shattered en route, because the mixture of cardboard and three square inches of bubble wrap don't quite get the job done. It's partially my fault, I suppose, for expecting the jars to be individually bubble wrapped, or packed in styrofoam, or for UPS not to have drop-kicked it from its point of origin to my now somewhat soggier mailbox.

Absolute rubbish. Mild sweet tomatoes taste. Whereis the curry and spices. Insulting!

Just like another reviewer, we received shattered jars; 5 out of 6 inside were partially or completely broken. They were not well packed, although an unheated delivery vehicle or storage could possibly also be to blame since it is below freezing outside and the outside of the package had no obvious damage. (The package was taken inside immediately upon arrival, so it did not freeze while in our possession).I still give this 3 stars since I believe it's decent curry paste (we've had the same kind before) and would be worth buying this way if we could trust the shipping situation. I've requested a refund and expect to receive such shortly.

Don't expect great food without a little of your own input. I have traveled in India and made one of my best Indian meals with this curry sauce, but I used the curry as a "starter". I sauteed whole chicken pieces with spices on them and onions, then added potato, carrot, red and green peppers, and simmered for two and 1/2 hours. I will buy this curry again.

We love this simmer sauce. It is one of our 'back-up' dinners for quick meals. It is a challenge to find in the local stores, such that when we are in one of the other towns that carry it we buy the store out. Much better to have it come to the house.

The best! Make for a really quick dinner - just add your pork or lamb.
