Pierre Lambert : Bambi Hardcover – November 3, 2017

Bambi is one of Disney’s most poetic films. The lush backgrounds and stirring score make it very breathtaking.Pierre Lambert brings to us several production art pieces from the film. These are a mixture of concept art, story sketches, backgrounds, and cels. Many pieces have never been published before. This volume has smaller dimensions than the previous ones that Lambert released and the pages don’t have that glossy finish, but it doesn’t take away the beauty of the art in any way. This could be why this volume is a lot more affordable than the previous entries.The text is in French, but if you know your Disney history and the people involved, you’ll be able to discern the descriptions fairly well (or use a translator). One thing that Lambert does that I like is he identifies where each piece is sourced from (i.e. Disney Animation Research Library). It shows how dedicated a researcher he is and gives an idea of what kind of resources are out there for animation art.I highly recommend Lambert’s Disney art books. They may be a bit expensive for the average Disney fan, but owning one is the next best thing to having access to the Disney Animation Research Library or some sort of archive. I imagine it’s like going through the ARL.Pick it up as soon as possible. Compare with Frank Thomas and Ollie Johnston’s behind the scenes book on Bambi (which also has a wealth of evocative art).I’m hoping the next one will be Peter Pan, Cinderella, or Dumbo.

Outstanding Disney art collection of Bambi. Goes way beyond in quality, compared to standard art books.

Bought this as a gift for our son who works in special effects/compositing. He'd been reluctant to buy it for himself because of the cost. The book was a nice thank you for helping us move.

Just received this today and have looked thru it twice already. This is another beautiful book by Pierre Lambert showcasing the wonderful artwork of "Bambi".While this is smaller than the other books, not as lavishly printed, the price point was a great value and reproductions of the artwork still first rate. I highly recommend this book. It took about 9 days to come from the UK.

Not up to the standards of his previous books. However, the price was less also. What there is some good images of the movie. Production values of the book are very good. I would like to have seen more images from the movie. I hope he will do Peter Pan.

Schönes Buch wie alle Disney Bücher von Pierre Lambert. Leider aber auch nicht so hochwertig wie die anderen Ausgaben der letzten Jahre. Druck ist einfacher, das Cel fehlt, weniger Seiten. Deshalb auch der sehr sehr günstige Preis. Schade das gerade dieser Filmklassiker die bisher einfachste Ausführung bekommen hat, der Film hätte besseres verdient. Trotzdem zu empfehlen wenn man schon die anderen Titel von Pierre Lambert in seiner Sammlung hat. Der Film lohnt es allemal im besonderen bei diesem günstigen Preis.

Je modifie légèrement mon premier jet rédigé dès réception et examen déçu rapide du livre. La conception et les documents insérés par Pierre Lambert dans ce volume restent de haute tenue, faisant une suite à ses travaux sur Disney. Pour les collectionneurs qui connaissaient les 5 volumes antérieurs, une déception m’a envahi de par : format réduit, plus de cello amovible sur décor en début, plus d'images de cellos sur décors d'animation brillants, plus d'emboîtage illustré, qualité papier moindre, plus de jaquette superbe brillante,…Néanmoins, on devine, après examen minutieux, que, sans doute pour économie du projet, l’éditeur a dû demander à Pierre Lambert dans le cas d’une édition luxueuse comme d’habitude, de diminuer considérablement le nombre de reproductions de cellos sur décors. Il s’avère que si l’on avait eu une édition habituelle, on aurait eu une maigrichonne éditions avec seulement 17 cellos brillants sur décors ou non y compris le cello détaché du début, au lieu d’une habituelle collection recherchée d’environ 67 à 104 reproductions selon les titres de chacun des 5 précédents livres luxueux (Pinocchio, 104/ Mickey, 80/ Blanche Neige, 74/ Le livre de la jungle, 92/ La Belle au bois dormant, 67/Bambi aurait été 17). Certes, le choix moins onéreux des reproductions de décors en plat normal sans brillance rajouté est plutôt en excédent, tout en étant très beaux, Tyrus Wong et les autres. Il y a pratiquement beaucoup moins de personnages détaillés en situation de cellos d’animation. Ce n’est sûrement pas le choix original de Pierre Lambert. Bref, je propose et souhaite que vous décidiez à chaque nouveau projet, d’éditer 2 variantes de chaque titre, une modeste comme le Bambi, permettant une vente beaucoup plus conséquente en nombre et une bonne rentabilité; plus une édition comme les précédentes, luxueuse à tirage et vente plus réduite vu le prix de revient. Je vous demande donc de faire du Bambi une édition superbe avec beaucoup d’autres cellos reproduits (je suppose que vous me répondriez que la maquette étant déjà faite, vous ne pourriez rien améliorer). Je suppose que les collectionneurs comme moi, ne se manifestent pas, mais n’en pensent pas moins. Je mets 5 étoiles, car je devine que Pierre Lambert, que je connais et dont je possède les 11 titres publiés (dont un beau Tex Avery), n’avait pas cette conception à l’origine et je souhaiterais que l’éditeur vende beaucoup d’exemplaires afin de perpétuer la qualité originale. J’ai repéré dans la bibliographie une prochaine édition du Pinocchio en 2017 !! avec 180 pages reproductions très proche des formats originaux, non annoncée officiellement actuellement. D’autre part, j’ai eu vent que la prochaine édition en prévision serait « Peter Pan », interrompu pour les 75 ans de « Bambi ». Bravo Pierre Lambert et « Haut les coeurs » !!

Compré este libro con la ilusión de poder ver más bocetos, acetatos de la época, fotografías de producción... nada más lejos de la realidad. Se limita a enseñar el "arte" (dibujos hechos a pastel y algunos fondos utilizados en la película), eso sí a tamaño grande de página completa, pues apenas tiene texto, pero yo particularmente echo en falta ver a Bambi en el libro (hay apenas 4 dibujos del cervatillo).
