This fit my 3.9l 2001 Dodge Dakota Sport perfectly. Take some time to look at the orientation of the part and compare it to the original housing for the brushes. The whole job took me less than an hour with basic tools.

If the smack trick works, this should fix it.
It was a dark and stormy night, (not really), and the warning light came on, voltage gauge in the red. So, popped the hood, whacked the alternator with the back end of a screwdriver, and it came back to life until I got home. Sure sign the brushes were toast. Ripped the alternator out, swapped out this thing in about 20 minutes, and good to go for about 3 months now. It was a direct fit. Basically just a few screws. No funny business. No special tools. The screws are the conductors, so no wiring. If the bearings aren't screeching and it was putting out full power before hand, this should do the trick. 1998 Dodge Dakota V6
