Beautiful projects
The media could not be loaded. This book in my opinion may not be the first you would want to buy as a beginner. Maybe it’s just me but I find florals challenging. In this book she shares many techniques like choosing a palette, mixing colors, gradation, and contrast. She shares lots of beautiful projects from cards to framed art. I’m working my way thru it very slowly as a beginner.

Absolutely what I was looking for
This book is just perfect! I'm not sure why people are complaining that it doesn't teach you to paint photorealistic flowers. That's not its purpose. My main "craft" is lettering but I was wishing I could add better artistic details. I don't want to spend far more time painting than lettering; I'm just looking for patterns that clearly convey what they are (a rose; a carnation; a leaf; a seed pod) without needing to be too realistic or accurate.Expert watercolorers may want to look elsewhere, but if you're new to the hobby or not looking to do anything too high-level, this book is perfect for you! I also appreciate the basic "intro to watercolor" at the beginning with helpful exercises on dilution, blending, different brush techniques, and so on. Highly recommended!

Great for beginning flower painters!
I’ve bought a lot of watercolor instruction books lately and this is definitely my favorite for flowers! The book starts off with paint colors and mixing. Author includes specific names/brands of paint but also encourages you to use what you have. There are some “getting used to watercolor” exercises. A few are repeats from most books (making swatches and gradients) but some exercises were new to me & look fun.Next is the section on painting specific flowers. I included the pictures of the two pages on Roses so you can see the different positions she demonstrates. I also included picture of the table of contents so you can see what specific flowers are covered. There is a small section covering leaves and foliage. The second half of the book is about making full design compositions such as painting a bouquet or a frame of flowers. These are more advanced pages once someone has learned the flower shapes.I hope the pictures help you decide if this book is for you!

Not what I needed.
I chose poorly. If you want to paint realflowers, don't buy this book. What's inside is exactly what's on the cover. It's simple broody strokes and stylized painting. I was looking for help with turning petals And painting flower with whites. I looking for anything realistic choose a different book. I tried some of the paintings and didn't find any improvement in my painting quality. Maybe it's not you. It's me. Just a bad first date.

Great Book
I like this book because it really is a Beginners Guide. In the beginning, the author talks about such things as the different paints, brushes, and papers and gives you her suggestions on each. Then she takes you through making a color chart and the various methods to use in changing the colors - values, saturation, etc. She also has lessons on several techniques such as wet and dry brush painting, diffusion and others. There are exercises that follow each topic she covers. When she teaches you to draw several kinds of flowers, the instructions are simple with step-by-step pictures for each that take you from start to finish. There's a nice surprise at the end of the book with several projects to try using what you learned from her book. I highly recommend this book. I'll be looking for other books by this same author to take me further along in learning more about watercolor painting.

Fantastic book for beginners!
Fantastic book for beginners. Highly recommend. Simple supply list, including a French Quill paint brush size 2 - which was a new discovery and I LOVE!) I have been very intimidated by many of the beginner watercolor books which tend to have long chapters on color theory, pallet building etc. This book gave brief, but useful explanations and then went right into putting paint to paper. The free style of Marie Boudon made this book accessible and encouraging right from the start. I was able to see my own progress right away and within a couple of days was able to make floral designs satisfactory enough to send as gifts on cards. So happy with this purchase. Has brought much joy and inspiration to my new journey with watercolor paints!

disappointed. These are good flowers to aim for?
I have been watercoloring for a few years now on a variety of subjects. Not great but I do some that I like but I have always struggled with realistic flowers. This book covers very elementary topices like selection of brushes and paint colors. Doesn't even mention Daniel Smith in which I am fully invested. OK - can't cover them all. I found these first few chapters off target and not useful but then evey author loves to tell their setup ...OK. I listen. But the key disappointment was the flowers that she drew. These were, in m opinion, for what that was worth, very abstract and simplistic design, compared to what I was aiming to achieve. S. Very disappointing given the high level of rave reviews that prompted me to buy it. Really, I want to return it though. I found very little info that actually helped me achieve more realistic and diverse floral paintings. This is why I gave it 3 stars - close but no cigar to an intermediate skill level artist. A beginner may find some good tips here. I will leave it at that. I got more out of the Bluprint online course I bought , then Craftsy.Truthfully. when I saw what the author consider a good floral painting, I was not at all interested in learning. But that is me... For what is tries to be, the author offers great explanation and tips.
