Fiebing's Pro Dye Leather Dye (4 Fl Oz) - Alcohol-Based, Penetrating, Permanent Dye for Shoes, Belts, Furniture - Vivid Color, Superior Color Fastness

This dye was very effective, and very very dark brown, almost black. It soaked into the veg tanned leather deeply, dried, and the leather was still nice and flexible, with no color rub off. However, I wanted some of the color to rub off for a worn look, and even after sanding the sides of my belt, they still burnished dark brown. So if you’re hoping the color will rub off a little, it will not. I used the method of spraying the dye on my belt with a fine mist sprayer and it worked pretty well for even coverage. Maybe the color would have been a little lighter if I had used a wool dauber. My gloves were goat leather and they definitely dyed black when I wanted brown. They just absorbed too much dye, at least with the spray method. But the pro dye works phenomenal other than that!

I did research on Google before buying this dye. I decided to use the oil-based version of this dye because it looked like it produced better results than the alcohol based. I was right. My boots turned out beautiful. You can hardly tell the difference between the black leather that you buy in the store or these dyed boots. I was trying to keep the cost down on this project, so I stripped my boots with alcohol first before I started the dye process. NOTE: The seller of this dye does not provide a way to apply the dye. So I went to Hobby Lobby and bought a small package of wool daubers for $1.50. I took my boots outside, put newspaper down, and with my gloves on and a wool dauber, applied the dye to one boot and then the other. I put three coats of dye on each boot. I let boots dry overnight and put one more coat of dye on the next day. I let the boots dry overnight again and then I put mink oil on to seal in the dye and make them waterproof. This is a process that cannot be rushed. I still have about half a bottle of dye left.

I have a pair of really nice 1000 Mile Boots that I love but they were very red. I felt like Dorothy when I wore them. They are made of Horween Chromexcel leather and I wasn’t sure it could be dyed as the leather is said to be so saturated already. After a careful surface prep to remove any sealant this dye had no trouble soaking into the leather leaving a very deep rich color. I finished up with acrylic sealer and the boots look fantastic! I couldn’t be more pleased.

Of course the dye works. It is dark though. Just a heads up when you do open it for the first time. It is chock full AND it has no rubber gasket or seal to it; so it WILL leak if you tip it AT ALL. I had to throw mine out because it got knocked over in my drawer and it leaked out completely. If you know leather dye, you know its a pain to clean up. A bunch of gloves, papertowels and alcohol later and it was mostly cleaned up.If you get this, make sure you get an aftermarket bottle that has a seal to it, to transfer it. Or keep it on a workdesk that will not get bumped so that you will not mistakenly knock it over.

Everything turned out good. Easy to work with.

I had an expensive purse that I got a water stain on. I decided to dye it a darker color, because the stain was so bad I couldn't use it as it was. I was really nervous, and wondered if I would ruin it for good. I did buy some cotton daubers to use to apply it. I was amazed at how even this went on and it dries so fast. I am so happy with how this turned out and I think this purse is beautiful again and I can use it again! And I really like this color better than the original. This is a great dye and you will not be sorry you bought it!A tip: I also bought the deglazer from Fiebings and used it on the purse before applying the dye.

I have used Fiebings products a lot and have used both their regular and pro dyes.I like the pro dye because the color seems more vivid and uniform, it seems to penetrate the leather more evenly and the color is accurate to what you would expect and with a top coat can achieve a really nice luster.The price is a bit high buying through Amazon as it can be found cheaper elsewhere if you are also getting free shipping or the order has enough items to make the shipping more of a value.The product goes a long way and you can dye a whole lot of leather with one bottle if you use a wool dauberIf you are drip dying using a dye pan then you will end up using far more product and it wont go as far.In short you cant go wrong with Fiebings leather products, they are a great value for the money and more importantly, they do what you want to create some really nice leather work

After a couple of months of use the dye is holding strong, very good item.
