The Logitech Slim Combo for the 12.9” iPad is claimed to be one of the best keyboard cases around, if not, the best, but should this be your ‘key’ purchase? Let’s press on.Inside the box magnetic box (which is nice and Apple-like), you get the keyboard (strong) magnetic sleep/wake cover and a separate plastic shell with adjustable stand which includes a thin, but strong, rubberised holder for the Apple Pencil. There’s also a thin A4 card showing you how to insert and connect the iPad and that’s it.The back shell stand, has the cutouts for both the 2015 and 2017 iPads - including the differently positioned cameras. On the sides there are larger cutouts for the magnetic connector (which make sense) and the lightning port (not so much). The stand offers more positions than Theresa May’s cabinet, including a Microsoft Surface Pro-style landscape mode that adjusts to most angles, and a portrait mode for that ‘FaceTime’ action.The keyboard, like the legendary Phil Taylor on the darts okey, is full sized, backlit and precise. Better yet, it uses the magnetic connector on that thin rubberised material again to attach to the iPad for power (claiming little power-drain) - no Bluetooth or batteries required (yaaayyy)!Other keyboard standouts include shortcut keys for copy, cut and paste; and actions for home, app-switching, search, keyboard brightness, music controls, volume and locking the device. The keyboard also offers a palm rest which is part of the magnetic cover. If, like a shocked Captain Kirk when quoted insurance for the Starship Enterprise, space is at a premium, the palm rest can be folded underneath the keyboard - unlike the 10.5” iPad version of case.In use, the keyboard and the stand are excellent. I’ve not experienced some of the problems mentioned by other reviewers regarding keys accidentally causing non-user actions like playing music. I can only assume this version 2 has fixed that.For my needs, which include class work, the Slim Combo with iOS 11 further justified the decision to the iPad being a desktop, yet a alone, laptop replacement. When viewing media, the keyboard can be separated from the iPad and covered by the palm rest - folded in reverse if you will.Unlike that One Direction hit, it isn’t ‘Perfect’.The use of materials. Time will tell if the plastic and rubber construction will last. Some might have expected more at the price - maybe aluminium for example - but I think the materials were a good choice to avoid the device being even heavier.Talking of price, it’s expensive though some context. Getting an Apple product is like getting a designer dress, you’re going to accessorise and it’s likely to be expensive; it just comes with the terrritory. However, having tried some separate stands and keyboards which collectively came to nearly as much and only did parts of what this does as a whole, the Slim Combo in this context offers value for money (kind of)!If lap-typing, it works well. Just be aware that the stand, although rubberised, can dig into your thighs after a while. It’s not uncomfortable, but you know it’s there and so worth mentioning.Oh, the Apple Pencil holder. As good an additional as it is, I think this is an area for improvement as there’s the potential for damage to the Apple Pencil as it’s outside the case rather than a case insert. I actually use the Belkin Apple Pencil Case and Stand. More expense I know, but I refer you to the aforementioned Apple designer life!To sum up, this is the Jose Mourinho of keyboards, you’re onto a winner but it comes at a price. Whether you think that’s a price worth paying or you can do just as well with the budget of Burnley’s Sean Dyche-type is a matter for debate.Personally, to my wallet’s disgust, it has to be “Go Jose”!!

Since Amazon are doing their usual thing of lumping many types of things all together (which is damn confusing and annoying) the device I’m reviewing is:Logitech Slim Folio Pro iPad Case with Wireless Bluetooth Keyboard, iPad Pro 12.9 Inch (3rd Generation Models: A1876, A1895, A1983, A2014), Backlit Keys, 14 iOS Shortcut Keys, QWERTY UK Layout - BlackThe one i bought is a Used - Good as new.The box it arrived in was open, pamphlets were included, and the case naturally. Sadly there was no charging cable, which makes me doubt the ‘Good as New’ label, since it clearly wasn’t complete.However the case itself was clean, undamaged, and without marks almost as if it has never been used.Putting it on the iPad was easy, sliding in and then the edges clipped over. As a protective case it’s fairly solid. Each of the corners have nice rubber on them, and the magnetic flap ensured the actual cover stays closed. That said, as with most keyboard cases, if you drop it there’s a good chance the keyboard is going to break. But better the keyboard than the iPad!Using the keyboard is surprisingly good. Typing feels good (to me), the keys have a solid amount of travel to them and a nice, but subtle ‘click’ to the press to let you know your press down has been completed.Since I’m currently doing a degree I’m using it a great deal and have had no issues with using it for an extended period of time. Though the fact that its flat, and not angled, does mean that long term use may lead to wrist strain. However i feel that using this in conjunction with my actual MacBook will keep that from happening any time soon.The case only has a single viewing angle, but also a very strong magnet that keeps it solid in place. I found using the keyboard and then occasionally using the Apple Pencil as well was fine, no chance of tipping over.Now for my negatives. And i do have a couple. Firstly, as mentioned above there’s only the one viewing angle. Which is great when your using the keyboard, but it would have been nice for a few more angles. Also if your in bed reading on the ipad and have it in portrait, the keyboard folds behind, but is unprotected. Personally I would have liked a bit of a sleeve to cover the keyboard when it’s not in use. This would also protect the screen from the keys.The case design does have a niggle as well. Both the power button and volume buttons are covered and are, frankly, hard to press. Especially the power button which needs a long press to activate Siri.The other grip i have is there’s no real indication of how much battery you have. You only have a little light that flashes when it’s ‘low’ but that dosent really tell you any thing.Another issue i have is that the keyboards back light turns off within seconds of you stopping typing. I get it’s to preserve battery life, but let us control that. Or atleast increase the time duration to a decent time of 1minute or so.Finally, there’s no Siri button. I dont understand why they don’t have one, especially given the power button is hard to press.Those issues aside i love this case, and think Logitech have hit a home run with it!It gets my thumbs up!

I’ve used plenty of Logitech iPad keyboards before, and also plenty of official Apple iPad keyboards. This particular model is the best choice for your iPad Pro 11”, as it has backlit keys and good protection.The battery life is claimed to be 3 months... however, the Bluetooth chip in the keyboard is extremely basic and doesn’t tell iPadOS what the current charge level is. Instead, there’s a button on the keyboard you press, and if it’s red (rather than green) then you should charge the keyboard. How much time you have left when it’s red is not disclosed.Also, it’s a shame the keyboard is powered by a rechargeable battery, instead of via the Smart Connector (as the official Apple version is). However... I understand you can connect a short USB-C cable between iPad and Keyboard to charge, if necessary.The keyboard is far superior to type on compared to the official Apple Smart Keyboard.The backlighting has a lot of bleed-through between the keys, but this is normal for such a (relatively) cheap keyboard.The magnetic clasp over the top doesn’t quite hold the two halves of the case together snugly, but it’s acceptable.Sometimes when typing with the device on my knee, I see the backlight flicker as the iPad wobbles on the magnetic connection. I need to type more lightly to avoid this.Overall, this case/keyboard does make the very sleek and light iPad Pro quite a bit bulkier and heavier, but if you’re wanting to use your iPad like a laptop, this is by far the best device.
