I like the 33 paint wells. The removable mixing tray is lightweight and moves.
The 33 mixing wells is nice. When I remove the mixing tray and place it on a hard surface it easily moves around when mixing paints in it. That is annoying. I therefore use a ceramic palette for my mixing purposes. The other reason I use a ceramic palette is because it makes nice puddles when mixing watercolor paints. My experience has been that the plastic trays cause the paint to bead and rather than puddle. The smaller size of the Mijello palette is convenient. I would say that the paint wells are a slight bit larger than full size pans which causes no problems when dabbing with larger brushes.

Nice roomy pallet
****EDIT: I found a fix for the loose pallet in the lid. I cut some long skinny pieces from a sheet of thin foam (It can be obtained from any craft store). I then taped them to the sides of the pallet. I also ended up putting one on the inside of the lid as well to get a good fit (see pics, I've marked where the changes are). But now it stays in there until I want to use it. ****I Bought this to go with the Mission Gold Watercolor paint set of 34 colors. Only I noticed that this pallet only has 33 places. So had to make a choice as to which color I'd most likely not be using a lot.It claims to be waterproof, and does actually keep liquids inside, but those liquids, if not allowed to dry, can run amok. So if you plan on traveling, allow ample time for anything that is wet to dry or just remove it. I've been using Mission Gold paints, and while they don't dry completely, I've not experienced any mold/mildew.The wells are very roomy and deep. They hold a lot of paint (close to 5ml). In front of each row is a "drainage" area of sorts. The wells are rounded, open at one end and angled to keep the paints in and also giving you a little bit if room to dab any excess paint. The mixing pallet is large. Unfortunately, it was not partitioned so your mixes have a chance of running into each other. Also the plastic is very smooth and the liquid tends to bead up. I'd suggest "scuffing" it up prior to use so that the water doesn't move around as easily. The mixing pallet is loose so that can be taken and cleaned separately. While this is a nice feature, it can be annoying having to deal with that loose piece all the time. I need to find a way to make it stick and I can remove it when I want. So I'll take a start off. In their 18-well pallet the removable tray fits snugly in the lid and only comes out when you remove it.The latch to close it seems work. It's a bit looser feeling compared to the 18-well, which has stiffer movement. It holds well. Granted I'm not throwing this into my backpack and hauling it around. I'm using primarily for home use and occasional plein air.Otherwise this is a nice case to use. You can draw your paints easily from the wells without ruining your brushes by digging into sharp corners.

Sturdy!
I really like how roomy and easy to use this palette is - it's exactly what I wanted. I don't travel with it at all, because I have a small setup for that, but this is great for keeping in my work area to open up and use when I have the odd moment to paint. The latch is wide and closes with a nice heavy, audible snap, and the wells are deep and wide enough that they don't get messy when you dip your brush in to work. I like that it's plastic, but doesn't feel flimsy AT ALL.There are a couple of things to mention that don't bother me, but may irritate others. The extra tray does fall out every time I close the lid. It lands perfectly on top of the paint wells, so there's no mess, but again, that might be a consideration for some people. I let any paint dry before I close up the case, but I guess if you try to close it up with wet paint you'll have issues. Also, it does discolor if you like to leave your paints in the tray like I do. A decent bit of elbow grease and a magic eraser does the trick to get it perfectly clean again. All in all, since I just needed a big basic palette for my work area and I'm not easily perturbed by small imperfections, it's perfect.

Update after 5 years of use
Update after 5 years of use:originally I had liked this due to the ease of use and storage although it's a bit troublesome to travel with due to the size. Upon using it for roughly five years now I can say with certain that I hate this so much. My watercolors separate constantly, they are dusty, on one occasion they molded which is something I didn't even know possible, and the palette only sealed correctly once. And it's not like I just let it sit for weeks at a time. I used it weekly and made sure to take proper care; however, the quality of the palette diminished quick. I can't even close the locking mechanism anymore.I'd suggest going for a different type if you don't want to store your paints in tubes.
