How do you know if you have killed them Because when you see the holes they have gone

Unable to open th woodworm tin
Dislike the fact that we cannot seem to get in contact with the company, and are unsure whether this can be returned, it seems to be impossible to open the product, because the plug will not open despite following the rather scant instructions. Don't really know what to do.
