Fills a niche for certain needs
A double boiler is not something commonly used in everyday cooking, but it is worth having as part of a well-stocked kitchen. If you've invested in a set of MultiClad Pro cookware, this compatible accessory is priced to make it worth adding. It has a graduated bottom rim to allow it to be compatible with MCP 2QT, 3QT, and 4QT saucepans.(Note that this is not a standalone double boiler but a component meant to be paired with a MCP saucepan or other pot of compatible diameter)For the uninitiated, in the kitchen a double boiler like this is typically used for melting chocolate or cheese (like for dipping or fondue) or making an emulsified sauce such as hollandaise or beurre blanc. It gently heats without scorching.Regarding criticisms in other reviews:- The rounded bottom. Yes, it is rounded, you cannot sit it flat by itself. This does not bother me. While in use, I find it to be an advantage while stirring or whisking because you can get your tool all along the curved base, like with a mixing bowl. In storage, I just place it on top of the steamer insert (which is flat-based) so it really doesn't take up any additional space. Alternatively, if you don't want it leaning over you can store it upside-down. To take off heat, yes you do need another saucepan to sit it in if total removal from heat is necessary. If not, you can just take the pot off the heat too, dump the water, and use the same pot as a stand. That won't hurt chocolate or cheese but might be risky with an emulsified sauce.- All the extra "grooves". The versatility to be compatible with several saucepan sizes comes with the consequence of extra ridges/grooves at the top of the bowl portion, the inner surface of where it joins with the saucepan. One critical review complained about chocolate getting in all those spots and being difficult to clean. I made chocolate covered strawberries for Valentine's Day and yes, chocolate got in all those spots. But I didn't find it any more difficult to clean than anything else; I don't really understand the complaint.Note that this is not the same triple-ply construction as the other MCP pots and pans, it is a single layer of 18/10 stainless steel like the MCP lids. That is actually a good thing for this piece, you don't want it to have the extra heat retention properties that the triple-ply MCP provides.I'm pleased with this purchase.

Perfect add-on!
This is a beautiful insert. I have several pans into which it fits, making it very versatile and also eliminating an issue, at least for me, other reviewers mention: it’s not flat-bottomed. After just completing 5 batches of fudge in it, I think I prefer the rounded: it stirs more easily for me, and I didn’t have any uneven heat disbursement issues! It fit well in 3 of my pans, I have a glass lid which fits it (although it comes with a metal one), and it cleaned up beautifully. The handle length is long and perfect. I did not have a problem with it getting hot.As it’s less than a week old, I can’t speak to its durability, but it appears well-made, has a lovely weight and finish to it, and I think it well hold up well.Definitely recommend this Cuisinart double-boiler insert!

Excellent double boiler
Yes, it has a round bottom, but I keep a mixing bowl by the stove in case I need to set it something. It works wonderfully and fits in a variety of sizes of sauce pans. It costs more than many others on Amazon, but the quality of the others was really questionable (I read a LOT of reviews). Happy to invest a little more in such a high quality product that I know I’ll have for a long time.

Excellent Melting Pot
Love the heavy duty construction. Grip area stays cool to the touch. Evenly heats and keeps foods warm when used for reheating foods. Would have been a total 10 if the bottom had been a flat cooking surface so it could double as a sauce pan. As a double boiler it is fabulous.

Fabulous steamer! So pleased….
We love this steamer. It has wonderful design and fits beautifully in all of our pots. My husband uses it daily for hard-boiled eggs. I have used it with multiple types of veggies with great success. I highly recommend based on quality, utility, and brand warranty for life.

my cooking , baking, granddaughter loved it.
Fits perfect in most of her Cuisinart pans, She called me this Christmas Eve. and said she counted the 1..2..3..4..5 chocolates into the pan and melting for covering her sticky bread buns.. well worth the money.. This is just the round bottom boiler pan and cover. She had been using this grandmas old type of boiler pan.. but, this hit the mark.. !! yeah !! Grandma Marilyn

Perfect for a Double Boiler
I have used this multiple times for heating milk for making yogurt. I have made ganache in it also. The rounded bottom (desired for a double boiler) is perfect for using a whisk to stir the contents. This matches my Cuisinart MultiClad set perfectly. Constructed well and foresee many years of use.

Fabulous - fits multiple sauce pans!
Love - love - love this. Great as it fits multiple size sauce pans. Love the circular bottom for evenly heating (just can’t put it down when not on the sauce pan).
