A low cost carpentry compass.
A low cost carpentry compass. Having read previous reviews I thought I’d give this a try, this wasn’t my first choice as that was out of stock. As previousl reviews stated the finish isn’t brilliant and the pencil grip is a little tight but on a functional note, which is of course what matters! Is it works it’s heavy enough to be stable but not uncomfortable. It draws and scribes good consistent circles and when alls said and done that’s what matters and for under a tenner, so all in all a good purchase. As far as it rusting? I’m sure treating it to a regular spot of 3in1 oil will overcome any issue in that area..

The disappointment with this product is pencils won’t fit. The thread projects too far forward and stops pencil slotting in. Pencil has to be shaved to allow this to be bypassed. Other than that when pencil fitted it is satisfactory. Enabled me to complete my task.

Probably best in a garage or workshop, not an art/craft item
I bought this because I needed to make accurate circles & arcs for an art project. And if you do not care about what sort of tool you use then it will do the job,.If, however, you care about the feel and finish of your tools then this is not the item you need. Not made of stainless steel, it arrives coated in machine oil to prevent rust. The sort of oil that sticks to your hands, stinks, and is difficult to remove even using solvent. In use it is stiff, hard on the hands, had very jagged machine shards left on the inside of where a pencil is inserted. In the event I accidentally stabbed myself with it could be lethal, it's very solid. In a woodwork area or garage the compass might be fine. As a 'domestic' item it is not. I should have bought a decent, stainless steel one in the first place, and it has been returned. And I shall go and wash my hands AGAIN to try and remove the smell of oil . . . sigh.
