I bought this kit with the intent of using it and then rebuild the Moen cartridge that it replaced. Unfortunately the Moen internal core was broken in half as I found out during disassembly. The price is right especially when it includes the removal tool. It operates smoothly with no shudder when you turn it off. Now to see if it last. I will note this one is identical to the aftermarket one my local plumbing store sell for $39.00 and the removal tool would have been another $17.00. If it does not hold up I will update the review and replace with a genuine Moen cartridge.

After using brute force to control my shower for 20 years, I installed this, and my shower faucet now turns with ease. After every shower, I say to myself, "why didn't I install a new cartridge years ago." The puller that comes with this is heavy duty enough to save with the rest of my plumbing tools. Do yourself a favor and also order a small tube of lube to go with this cartridge. The little package of lube that comes with the cartridge might not be enough if you mess up the installation the first time, like I did.

Unfortunately this was the second time I have had one of these fail prematurely -- the one this was replacing had failed in under 3 years, and this one actually failed instantly, leaking worse than what it was replacing. This led to a lot of lost time as I tested this part in 6 different ways, and then had to go to a local retailer to instead buy the name brand Moen one instead, as we needed the fix now. Fool me twice, shame on me -- never will I buy this again. I give it one star because the extractor proved useful (would have been nice to have some actual instructions with that, not included) as I had extensive calcification and it made the difference in getting the old one out. The extra parts they supplied were also nice, and you can buy all of these separately. But the main part we bought? Plastic falling off immediately, didn't keep a seal/turn off fully, and frankly wasted a lot more of my time than if I had just bought the Moen official one and the 3rd party extractor tool (might save your plumbing if you end up with a stuck valve). Read my review and beware - I don't want my money back anymore, I lost time and had a really bad repair time spending 10X the time because of this faulty part.

Our main shower wasn’t working and discovered we needed to replace the valve. Looked online at the other big box home improvement stores and wasn’t able to find the exact thing available in the stores. Found the exact replacement here and now our shower works like it should.

I bought this kit because I read reviews saying you need the puller. You don’t. I grabbed the stem on my old cartridge with a pair of pliers, and the cartridge easily slides straight out. I never even took the puller out of the packaging. I suppose other people could have stubborn cartridges that don’t want to come out, but there is quite a bit to grab onto just using a pair of pliers or perhaps a pair of vice grips if you really need to. I have hard water, and so I was assuming that my job would be worse than most too.What do I even do with this useless tool? It will sit on my desk as a fidget for a while until I throw it out. Skip the puller.The cartridge is perfect and works great. No more leaks.

Fit right in to my application and the price was way better than the stores. I did have to use the tool. I'm glad that was available. Quick delivery, too! Thanks

Shower faucet cartridge went bad a few months ago, saw this product and thought "eh how bad could it be". Total time of replacement: 3 hours. In the end the cartridge literally just cracked and fell apart. It was a horrible experience.A few months later another cartridge in a different shower went bad (coincidence?). Remembering my ordeal last time I went ahead and purchased this tool. Total time of replacement: 45 min. And most of that was spent putting the new one in and getting the faucet straight. I had the old cartridge out within the first 10 min of starting the project thanks to this thing.So yeah, don't be me. Just buy it and save yourself the frustration.

This cartridge fit well and did not leak but the water temperature was not hot enough.
