I'm almost your exact size. I'm 5'8" 132lbs and 35 chest. I ordered the small which worked because it's adjustable in the back. It can b loosened or tightened. Medium might work too but not sure.

Q: I 5'6 and 36ddd around 150. should i go with the xl?

I'm 5'3 and 36DD and I purchased the xl. It fitted like a glove. Yes, I think you should buy the xl.

Q: Does the corset come with shorts or underwear.... ?in the picture they almost look like a bathing suit bottom

They’re pretty much underwear

I'm 4'11 and the small fit. I weigh 102 lbs and I'm a 36B. You will have a hard time adjusting the corset but ask a friend to help you out, that's what I did. The shorts fit like underwear. Since you are taller, a medium might be a good idea.
