Keeps the kraut submerged
I had trouble finding a properly sized plate, so I got one of these to try it out. It kept my cabbage and other veges submerged for a proper ferment. I'm gonna order some more for my other crocks.I used it in lieu of a plate/stone combo as I've seen described elsewhere. They aren't as heavy as a stone I could find that would fit in my 1 gallon Ohio Stoneware crock, but the kraut and such aren't that buoyant so this weight works just fine.

EZ way to get in a pickle!
A must have for lactofermentation. What can I say? It’s ceramic, it’s heavy, no cracks, and it keeps anything below the waterline! By by plates and saucers!

Listing is a blatant lie
Who reads reviews for something they know exactly what the product is?But apparently I should have so I'd know this was a BS listing.You get a single 1 gal weight, not a 1, 3 & 5 gal weight as illustrated.So you end up paying a premium price for just a 1gal weight.I'm returning it.

Great product, bad packaging
I was very excited to get these, particularly since they are made in my own state of Ohio. They look and feel great, nice weight. Unfortunately, the packaging leaves much room for improvement. The 2 halves are packaged together in shrink-wrap platic, which means they jostle against each other and the corners chip (see photos). Regardless of the bubble wrap around that and the padded Amazon bag, the halves rubbing and grinding against each other is still an issue. I am hoping that the chipped corners won't affect the fermentation process... but I am considering sending these back.

The right tool for the job.
The split design is perfect for allowing you to position the weight inside the crock. No more having to improvise a weight taking a chance that it has a hole in the wrapping, causing a failure of your fermentation.

Misleading
The product works well. However, the picture is misleading because it shows 3 separate items which makes you believe that there are 3 stone sets. That is not true. There is only 1 set. When you read the description, it states the otem will fit 1, 3, 5 gal. Crooks. That true but it adds to the believe of 3 items and not 1.
