Made for Genie
Had an opener that would work sometimes no real pattern to when or why. After testing the door thinking it was okay I heard a loud pop and saw smoke. The old capacitor popped its top and was leaking oil. Replaced with new one problem solved. Works like a new opener.I did test the old capacitor it was a 70 MFD but tested at 34 MFD

Capacitor Fixed Problem Cheaply!
I opened my garage door several times in a short period of time, and it quit working. After researching online what it might be, I called the place that installed it because they had left their sticker with their number near the switch in the garage, although I did check first to see if they had reputable reviews, which they did.I explained what was happening to the guy on the phone, and he said it sounded like the motor was bad, and it was more cost effective to get a new opener, which would cost $495 installed. Also, he said it was not covered under warranty, even though the motor had a lifetime one, because we were only renting the house when it was purchased and did not actually pay for it.So I scheduled the installation of a new opener. I got the model number of the new one, and researched it online before the guy arrived to put it in. In the process of this I found out that I could call the garage door opener company (Genie) and they would troubleshoot with me over the phone, which is kind of what the other guy had done, but some people posted that they were able to fix their door cheaply by talking to Genie, although several people had also posted that they had a bad experience, especially by waiting a long time on hold.Sure enough, when I called there was a 2 hour wait, but I was able to put my number in and they would call me back. So I did this, and then I called the local company and told them to put a hold on the install. I was looking forward to getting a new one, but not to paying the $500.Genie called me back in about 75 minutes. The represenative was very helpful and patient, walking me through different things to try to remedy the problem, including whacking the unit with a broom handle. This did not work and eventually he had me take the cover off and, even though I did not see evidence of white power or something below the capacitor that would indicate it was no good, he told me that getting a new one would likely fix the opener. He also told me that if the new capacitor did not fix it, that I WOULD in fact be covered by warranty for a new motor, even though we did not actually purchase the opener, since we had lived here when it was purchased (We now own the house).I was a bit skeptical, but for less than $20 I figured it was worth a shot, to save $495. He gave me a place I could go to buy one, but it was such a far drive, I decided to go a few days with the opener not working and order one on Amazon.I am ridicuously inept at fixing anything, but the Genie guy said it would be easy, and other reviews on here said the same thing. Well it was not that easy. Actually removing the old capacitor and installing the new one was pretty straightforward, which did fix the opener(!), the hard part was putting the thing back together properly. I was tempted to just do a crappy job and leave one side panel not properly flush, but I hate to leave things like that, not that it would have ever mattered. It probably took me a couple hours to do the whole job, but it is back to how it was before I foolishly opened and closed it 5-6 times in 15 minutes. Turns out garage door openers are not meant to do that. Funny, but the Genie guy and the installer in the field both mentioned that this probably caused the capacitor to burn out, but the first guy on the phone said it must be the motor, even though the Genie guy said that when a motor is out it makes a grinding sound. So it worked out great in the end!

Works Perfect
This replacement capacitor worked for Genie H4000A and it's a 10 minute swap. The circumference is the same as the original, but the length is a approximately 1/4" shorter, so there were no problems with the fit.

Garaged Door Travel, Backward and Forward, Is Now Possible Again!
Not the same capacitor as shown in the picture but I just installed it and it works flawlessly right now. Mine was "hencho en Mexico" so its a good thing I bought it before Tump takes office. Otherwise, I'd have to buy one "hencho in Ohio" and maybe paid more. The one I received is a little smaller too; maybe capacitor technology has evolved that way. Paid $25 with expedited shipping which was $10 to $20 less than any of the local suppliers that Genie recommended. Also, ordering from Amazon obviously saved me driving to one of those guys. Speaking of driving, I noticed on the invoice that Preferred Doors is actually closer to my house than my local post office! Had I known that when I ordered, or if these guys had told me that before they shipped, I could have driven there and saved us both some hassle and saved a little cash too. Not a big deal though. Good OEM replacement so far, kudo's to Preferred Door for prompt shipment and keeping me posted on order status. No qualms recommending these guys. Kudo's to Genie for spending an hour on the phone with me to troubleshoot an eight year old, out of manufacture, garage door opener. I'll remember that when I need a new garage door opener. Now I can park the Delorean in the Garage again.
