mounted on a good, stable tripod, these binoculars are a surprisingly powerful tool for observing the night sky. you can easily find and focus on targets at low power and then zoom in; the zoom lever is very smooth and doesn't cause any motion in the binoculars if used carefully. last night, from the sidewalk outside my house in the heart of greater Boston, my daughter and i saw three Jovian moons and a touch of color on the planet's disk, plus Saturn's "ears"! i can't wait to try them out under really dark skies. they are also excellent for handheld examination of distant targets in daylight. i thought maybe i was making a mistake buying such inexpensive binoculars, but i am thrilled to have them.

I READ SEVERAL REVIEWS BEFORE BUYING THESE. I HAVE HAD DOZENS OF TASCO PRODUCTS IN THE PAST AND HAVE NEVER BEEN DISAPPOINTED BY THEM. THE REVIEWS THAT STATED THAT OBJECTS AT THE HIGHER POWER WERE "FUZZY" SIMPLY DON'T KNOW HOW TO ADJUST THE FOCUS (USE THE CENTER WHEEL). OBJECTS AT THE 30 POWER RANGE ARE JUST AS CLEAR AS THOSE AT 10X. YOU SIMPLY HAVE TO USE THE RIGHT EYE FOCAL ADJUSTMENT AND THE CENTER WHEEL ADJUSTMENT CORRECTLY. THESE ARE VERY MUCH WORTH THE MONEY. A LITTLE HEAVY BUT, HEY, THAT IS WHAT THE STRAP AND CARRYING CASE ARE FOR. MUCH BETTER QUALITY THAN SIMILARLY PRICED ITEMS. IF YOU WANT GOOD QUALITY, EASE OF USE AND GOOD CLARITY WITHOUT SPENDING A SMALL FORTUNE ... THESE ARE FOR YOU. TRUST TASCO PRODUCTS. I HAVE FOR OVER 40 YEARS.

I bought the binocks for my son. He said they work great. Field of view was great in that you could zoom in and out with a lever.

These binoculars work well for astronomy. Using a tripod and binocular mount I was able to see the Galilean moons of Jupiter and even make out the orientation of the rings of Saturn. The rings looked like an extension of the planet, the gaps between the planet and rings was not visible. The zoom function was a bit stiff and it was necessary to adjust the focus after zooming. The binoculars offer the ability to adjust the focus of the right eyepiece. These are excellent binoculars for the price.

As many others have warned, many pairs are manufactured in correction without the proper lens alignment.If buying as a gift, consider shipping to your address first to evaluate the pair. Worth a try when the price is right, but seems a lot of these get returned as defective (which was my situation!)

Very well made with excellent optics. Objects are easily located. Focus adjustments and zoom mechanism are smooth and, when done properly, lead to a very crisp image. Without a tripod, maximum zoom is hindered by shake, but is still usable. The binoculars are not lightweight, but they are not overly heavy either. The dust caps don't stay on very well. Overall, these are excellent binoculars.
