Dreadful Inkjet printing on cheap recycled paper. Still, it's absorbent .....
I think the heading pretty much says it all. This is something I've encountered before with books printed by Amazon on behalf of clients who are "self publishing". They are invariable, poor quality, both in terms of printing and paper used. I don't know if they are offered different levels of quality or not, but this certainly is the bottom level, if they are. This book, and by default, I imagine everything else put out by this company, will suffer from the same problems. The paper itself is cheap recycled, rough, light grey, and won't take ink well without bleed through, so I would say, only use pencil or biro at best. Certainly no fountain pen, rollerball or any spirit based ink. Even then using a biro, go light touch. Not to mention the feathering you'd get.... Still, absorbent paper..... It does have it's uses. The printing itself is pretty dreadful. Just multiple shades of grey, which make the maps rather dull to look at and details are not at all obvious to distinguish. So, grey printing on grey background... That'll work. NOT!I'd say printing is a lot less than 300 DPI, which would be the absolute minimum for a printed book like this. Blacks do not stand out and the page numberings are full of white specks as are thick black lines on the maps themselves. The only reason I am not sending this back in disgust is because I want to practice colouring maps, and whatever I do, however badly I screw up, I can't possibly make it worse than it is.The book itself is square format, and you do get what is advertised. 20 pages of assorted Dungeon, villages, towns and "world" maps. on one side of each double page. On the other side a page to write notes or whatever else you want to do on it. At the back, pages of advertising the other products this company produce (Sorry, Amazon produces for them)Anyway, to cut long story short, good idea and a good variety of maps, but it's all let down by the dreadful production.I'd definitely NOT recommend this or any other of this company's products, to anyone whatsoever.Just save your money and look elsewhere.
