The solution for controlling the troublesome overhead light that came with my garage door opener.
A few years ago I purchased a model 8500 garage door opener made by Liftmaster. It came with a wireless overhead light (model 380LM). While the opener has performed flawlessly, I've had nothing but trouble with the wireless light. At times the light won't come on, won't go off, or comes on at random and allows the two internal bulbs to burn unnecessarily for hours. At other times the light can't be turned on or off by pressing the "light" button on the wall controller. On many occasions, the only way I could get the light to turn off was to unplug it.No amount of re-programming or resetting solved the problem. I also tried unplugging the garage door opener dozens of times, but that didn't fix it either. And just in case you're wondering, I used incandescent bulbs in the light as recommended by Liftmaster.During the warranty period Liftmaster did their best to try and solve my problems. They sent me not one but two additional lights, an updated wall controller, and a new master control board. None of these parts solved the problem with the light. I decided to figure out my own solution. It occurred to me that maybe I could use some sort of device that would turn the light on or off by sensing the draw of electrical current in the garage door opener. My research led me to this automated vacuum switch. I specifically selected this model because it offers an adjustable delay of up to 60 seconds (most other models only offer a maximum delay of seven seconds).1. I removed all of the electronic stuff from the overhead light. 2. I wired the bulbs to an extension cord with a standard plug on the end. 3. I plugged the light into the accessory outlet on the device, then I plugged my garage door opener into the outlet for the table saw. 4. I set the timer (delay) on the device to 60 seconds. Voila! Now when I press the button to open the garage door, the light automatically comes on and shuts off after one minute. No more light issues! If I could change anything about this device, I'd like for the timer (delay) to be adjustable for up to three minutes. However, I realize it wasn't designed for controlling a garage light. In any case, one minute is enough time for me to get in or out of the car when it's dark.

Works great.
I’m using this with my radial arm saw, to control both a utility light and shop-vac dust collection system. 6-second shut-off delay works very well. I cannot imagine working on my shop without this unit.

Works well
I actually use this to turn on a fume extractor for a 3D printer when the printer is running. I had no problem with it drawing enough power to trip it. Then when printing is done, it shuts off. These things can be used for much more than just controlling shop vacs.

Solid automatic switch
When a less expensive version of this type of product failed after only a month of occasional use I decided to try buying the most expensive one Amazon offered instead . The switch is very well designed and easy to use. Solid construction. Hopefully, the electronics will last

Works Flawlessly
I should have purchased this years ago. Works perfectly and I don't have to remember to turn my dust collector on or off each time I use my table saw, drum sander, band saw, or planer. No more piles of dust in my shop.

No more having to hit extra buttons
Using this is so much easier than struggling to hit the vacuum switch on and off. It adds and element of safety too as you don’t have to think about the loud vacuum when you’re still working with the material. Save your ears!

Works as Advertised
I have my miter saw and HD vac tied through this device. The front lag time is a few seconds but manageable.
