A-MUST-HAVE for ANY jobseeker!
I want to start my review by stating that I absolutely love this book, its energy and how RICH it is with ideas, resources, strategies and links that one can apply immediately in his/her job search. It is easy, it is written so well, it is engaging and so easy to read. I love the voice of this book--it is that much engaging, real, humorous and true!As I am writing this, I am still in the search for the next great opportunity in my career. What this book gives me is clarity, confidence and direction on how to strategize the search and what NOT to do. I have no doubts I will succeed in landing that amazing position.I have learned so much from this book (I read it twice already), the following includes only the few highlights I found extremely useful: 1) how to find contacts in the target companies through Google Advanced Search 2) examples of what to say and how when speaking with recruiters, future employers, gate keepers at the target companies 3) preparing answers to the most common interview questions (a must to develop) 4) Guerilla resume and cover letter (it is the cherry on top-what a brilliant format to showcase yourself!) 5) Guerilla Intelligence and War Stories- powerful tools to uncover hidden job markets and real-life stories from the achievers from all walks on life. My favorite one is by Martin Buckland because it describes the true pressure of someone who is desperately needs/wants a job and how creativity captures the right employer. 6) Winning the interview and Negotiating the salary (the last two chapters)—Wow, I do not think I have ever read a better way of how sell yourself, negotiate a salary and other benefits and just how to show up in those situations. The whole book is abundant with all the necessary information, which the authors present in an easy-to-follow format. I bent pages, highlighted and marked paragraphs, stuck post it notes to help me organize and memorize the material.I have recommended this book to every friend I have. It is such a great resource for anyone who is looking or will be looking for the job regardless of the current life and work situation.

If you want something different, do something different!
If insanity is doing the same thing over and over again, expecting different results, then I have been flat-out crazy in my job search. I've followed the old "tried and true" conventional wisdom that I've used for years. And, when I have experienced uninspiring results (which happens a lot in this economy), my conclusion has been that I must not be doing enough so I've applied myself even more strenuously to those same activities. What a discouraging, depressing, and fruitless grind! If you want out of that cycle as badly as I did, you absolutely must get this book (read it - use it).I'm not going to go into all the specifics about the tips and techniques - other reviewers here have done a much better job than I can. I want to touch on two critical intangibles David and Jay have given me through this book - HOPE and PERMISSION.As I mentioned, a job search can be a real grind - my hat is off to anyone else going through the process. It takes a tremendous amount of emotional wherewithal to keep slugging away at it. And for those of you who have done it my way, you have my respect for your tenacity and my sympathy as well. Everybody wants to be wanted and a traditional job search means a lot of rejection. I don't care who you are - that's a tough thing to drag your butt out of bed to face every morning.Years ago I considered myself a poor negotiator. I had a lot of underlying beliefs about it that just weren't serving me well, but I couldn't get past them. They were borne out of, and repeatedly reinforced, by opinions of others around me (conventional "wisdom"). At the recommendation of a trusted colleague, I attended a negotiation training seminar. It was like someone threw a switch! Today I am a very successful negotiator, and reflecting back on that pivotal moment, I can see that what I really needed (in addition to solid tips and techniques) was permission from a credible source to leave my old ways behind. And, the techniques were so effective that I almost felt like I was getting away with something.Well, my experience with this book has been similar, but much more so. I needed PERMISSION to break out of the job search conventional wisdom fed to me by (well-intentioned) peers and professionals. I needed someone who was credible, expert and proven to give me a much-needed wake-up call to break out of my rut. If you are anything like me, you may have even considered many of the techniques in the book before but dismissed them as too maverick or "out there." First, they aren't. It's a new world out there - the old way of job seeking no longer works. If it was working for you and me, we wouldn't be looking for books like this. Second, if you like what you've been getting, keep on doing what you're doing. Not me. Not any longer. I want results and I want to take the shortest path to them, working smarter, not harder. This book is the answer. And, the techniques are so effective, I again feel like I'm getting away with something (which is a lot of fun)!It doesn't take much to see how David and Jay have given me the other intangible I mentioned: HOPE. The simple truth is that there hasn't been one thing they recommend that hasn't gotten me results. I get traction immediately with every technique I employ. Plus, I need these victories along the way. They help to feed my motivation, actually make the process exciting and enjoyable, and propel me dramatically down the path towards my goal. That's something I never expected in a job search - enjoyment. And, the real bonus is the steps I'm taking now not only help me in my present search. I'm convinced that they are setting me up for much further down the road. I'm confident that if I ever find myself in this position again, I'll not have to worry much at all because I will have already taken the steps to ensure that I've graduated from someone who looks for jobs to someone who is sought out for jobs. Don't you want the same? This book is your solution!
