Fantastic crafting idea with kids
I have done these in the past and there is a bit of creativity that comes from doing one of the paint by numbers. I bought this and was impressed that the picture itself is larger and the canvas is quite nice. The only thing keeping it off the wall when you get it is the paint. I had my son’s help me to work on this painting when they visited, each spent a little time working on it and at the end of it, we had a painting that would go in my daughters room. They had never tried these before and loved the experience. The set is very nice and complete, with a large number of paints and different brushes for you to use. The look of the finished oil painting is really nice and the larger size allows it to take a bit of time away from TV or a screen. I hope that this helps.

Definitely not an activity for children
Unless, perhaps, it's a child with the manual dexterity and mental focus of a surgeon. When I opened it, I wasn't exactly shocked, but I was definitely *surprised* by how tiny and intricate the various color spaces were. Immediately I thought that the paintbrush included was much too big -- this is a painting that would require a paintbrush that only has a FEW bristles. What's in the box: A cardboard print and a paper print of the art, two packages of varnish, two bags containing the little bottles of paint, two cardboard paint holders, and a double-sided paint brush. As you can see, I haven't even begun to paint this yet (or even take the paint out of the bags), because I haven't had time. I suppose this is one of those projects that you work on a tiny bit (emphasize tiny) at a time, over several weekends. Bright light and probably a magnifier would come in handy, I imagine. Otherwise, this seems like it will be a fun, relaxing activity. :)

A little cheap feeling. But not too shabby!
Some of the first impressions I had with this kit was that some of the materials (including the canvas and paper sheet it comes with) felt a bit on the cheap side compared to other paint by numbers sets I've had in the past, but nothing of too much concern. Some of the pieces came in the package loose (as seen in the second photo) but it shouldn't affect anything about the final painting. I also checked to make sure the paint wasn't dried out, as that's a problem I've seen before - luckily it seemed good and wet! I did also like that the included paintbrush seemed well chosen for fine detail, which is good for these types of kits.Overall, I would say I'm pleased with this set. Not overly impressed, but not disappointed either. I'll try and add a photo of the finalized painting once I sit down to do it.

Very detailed!
I’ve had this for several months now and am not even halfway done! It is a very detailed painting, with lots of small dots and alternating colors needed. They do provide you with all the paints needed and they are all correctly marked to find easily. You are also provided with a legend that shows what every little section needs (in case you accidentally get paint over a number) and you are given a double sided paintbrush. As there are so many small details I do wish they gave you a smaller brush - the brush provided is not small enough for some of these small details. The painting is great for a mindless calming activity and especially if you enjoy painting but are not exactly creative on your own! I will say, you must be very patient to be able to do this - the amount of details is exhaustive but it is fun.

If you take this on, be prepared for serious detail work!
This is going to be a fun one. So many colors, so many numbers, but some of the spaces are SOO small. Both good and bad. Good because the small spaces will really show with great detail and look beautiful; of course, the downside is that it will take a long time to complete -- but if you start this, I'm not sure why you would be in a rush to finish.Bottom line: If you make the commitment to finishing this properly, its going to be awesome.

This is going to be a struggle
I'm not super artistic, but I've taken some painting classes and can hold my own given clear instructions. So I thought this paint-by-numbers idea would work, but after opening it, I'm feeling a lot less confident. When I opened it, I couldn't believe how tiny the markings and sections are. On the actual canvas, they're printed in kind of a light orange; the manufacturer quite correctly realized this would be impossible to decipher, so a separate "legend" of a same-sized glossy paper with black printing is included. It doesn't help a ton - the sections and numbers are still itsy-bitsy. It looks like everything is included, but there's only one brush, and even though it has two slightly different ends, I don't think the point is fine enough to use in the smallest sections (and is too small for the largest sections). If you have art brushes around the house, you'll need them. If you don't, you'll want to get them. Size issue aside, with 34 tubs of paint and such small areas, you'll likely be working with more than one color at a time. A brush set would have been so easy to include. I am not sure I have the patience and fine motor skills to complete this, but I'll try it over the holiday break and see how long I last. I may need reading glasses afterwards though!

Great gift for art lovers, even children!
I ordered this for my 8 year old daughter and she loves it. The paint by numbers are easy to follow, even for her age, and once finished it creates a beautiful Japanese nature scene. My daughter hung it up on her wall where she displays all of her artwork. Such a beautiful piece!

Very nice hobby project - if you are careful
I ordered two of these for a relative. She finds them to be an enjoyable diversion, and she thinks that they have encouraged her to use an elaborate water color paint set that she was given and stored away a long time ago.I have seen the result of use of this paint by number kit, and it is quite attractive.I am happy I gave her these sets.
