This is an excellent product, well built and solid. Drummers for many years have tuned drums by ears alone and been very successful. Now the addition of this helpful tool gives you a great starting point. The challenge is tuning both the batter and resonant drum heads in harmony with one another. This tool reads the tension of the drum head and allows for consistency across all lugs. The DrumDial comes with a useful tuning chart with some tuning examples and this is backed up with their great website. Other devices on the market measure tension rods which is not in my option that accurate. Another brand measures drum frequency which is incredibly accurate but you need a quiet room to use it. DrumDial, once you know your personal settings, allows you to tune the drum in silence even if a band or orchestra are practicing in the same room. I originally had the mechanical version and am delighted with this new purchase. Please note unlike the advertised picture, you will receive the very latest model that also supports a light for the dial, for when it is dark on stage and you need to tune up. Personally I won't be without this tool as I know it promises consistent excellent results after every head change and every time I want to check my tuning.

Very pleased with this item. I bought this for use in setting the tension for banjo heads (which are similar to drum heads). I got the digital version which is probably not necessary. There is a mechanical one which I suspect for most purposes is fine and I think costs a little less. Very, very well made. The whole package is excellent and easy to set up and use. Highly recommended. I have given five stars for accuracy but I have not actually compared the tension with other tension measuring apparatus. By ear it seems to give the note one looks for but that is notoriously difficult to tell with total accuracy.

Great bit of gear

Its slow and unreponsive - it takes a second or two for the numbers to adjust, so by the time it shows the result you want, you've tuned past it. Get the analogue one instead. I didn't buy from Amazon, or I'd have returned it

Extremely happy with this, highly recommend it, the build quality is extremely high quality even down to the hard case for it. Easy to use and gets the head tension easily and evenly all round the drum head. If mine ever went missing I would buy another in a heart beat!

Very pleased. I tune my drums by ear then measure using the drum tuner. Note the reading and quickly retune when necessary.
