Faithful hand plane
Thank you to everyone involved in my order of 1 small boxed wood plane Faithful are a company I've only had small dealings with and I have to say I'm totally smitten by them I've had 3 planes this 1 being the third one and it hasn't failed them at all I would be happy to recommend them all day long who ever works for them I M O are privileged to do so and if there as happy as me when I use my tools ie planers and roofing square then life is good

it is fantastic. I would definitely buy this make of tools ...
this plane is very well constructed. it is well machined. it requires setting up and sharpening, this was done in about 45 minutes. For the price of this tool, it is fantastic. I would definitely buy this make of tools again.I bought another block plane from another very well known manufacturer , it cost twice the price of the Faithfull plane, and it is half the quality, if that , it looks like it has been milled with a rasp. I have spent so much time trying to get it flat that I have given up now , a waste of time and money, still one has to pay for ones mistakes.

Great learning opportunity
Well, it's pretty and has a nice weight, the brass is nice and so is the box. A couple of nicks in the cap iron at the back, but hey, it's cheap. A bit (no, a deal) of play in the fore & aft adjustment of the blade, but it works, as does the lateral-adjustment lever. However: the throat won't close to less than 4 mm, which is away too wide, and won't stay set: as you use the beastie it gradually comes loose again. If you plane with a finger on the locking knob you can feel it waggling as you go, and no amount of tightening will keep it still. Not good. I'll try grinding a couple of mm off the flanges and filing out the adjustment lever, that might improve it.The sole needed a deal of flattening, as expected, and the blade develops nicks as if I were planing nail-heads, which I don't. Honest. I've read in another review about re-tempering the blade, so I'll have a go at that. If that doesn't work I'll try a Stanley blade in it. I'd stop short of a Hock, though.Anyway, despite all its warts I'm giving it 3: it's pretty, fits nicely in the hand, and is great for learning how to set up a duff plane. But bring your patience to the feast, you'll need it.

The same poor quality as all the others
This is just the same poor quality as others that are half the price. The throat adjustment was stuck fast on this and the blade alignment was ineffectual. I've had a few different brands of this same generic model - just go for the cheapest one as they appear to all have similar issues...
