GHB38 Incremental Optical Rotary Encoder 8mm Hole Hollow Shaft, 38mm Outer Dia (Push Pull output/5-26V DC, 1000P/R)

I've looked around to find rotary encoders for a specific project to convert a rotary motion to a linear distance and this worked out very well, especially for the price. Most all of the other encoders I found were for some sort of industrial usage and they are expensive. I'm sure they're high quality but this one fit the bill for price and capability. This encoder was mounted to the shaft of a 1/2 ton arbor press to measure vertical distance in inches. Picture. This combined with a 200kg load cell to measure PSI allowed me to test valve springs for length and compression PSI.

We have ordered these 3 times. The first two times were perfect so when the third order came in I just shelved the units as waiting for installation. Turns out the order got goofed and we got units with a preinstalled shaft rather than a 8mm Hole Hollow. The was not noticed for around 6-8 months. I reached out to customer service on the off chance they could work with us to reach an equitable return process. They smashed it out of the park and now we have the right parts in a relatively quick turn around too. Thanks CALT!

This encoder is pretty easy to get up and running, and the documentation is clear enough. I like the wire colors being explained right on the label of the encoder. 1000 pulses per revolution is incredible resolution, under 1 degree being implied.

I needed an encoder to implement an electronic lead screw on my antique lathe, so I thought I would give this one a try. Excellent choice. This encoder is well made out of good quality materials. Fit and finish are excellent. Easy to mount. Works very well. Stable and precise. Highly recommend. 5 stars.

I bought one of these to interface back to my CNC controller on a small, dedicated threading lathe I built. The fact that they come with mounting lugs is very handy. I would buy another one from this vendor.
