110 Empty Hotel Rooms—Filled with Horror! Jack Torrance (Steven Weber) and his family (Rebecca De Mornay and Courtland Mead) move into the sprawling, vacant Overlook Hotel to get away from it all. Away from the alcoholism that derails Jack's writing career. Away from the violent outbursts that mar Jack's past. But Jack's young son Danny knows better. He possesses a psychic gift called the shining—a gift the hotel's vile spirits desperately want. In the hands of Stephen King, the "dead" Overlook comes horrifyingly alive. Phantoms lurk, the message "redrum" appears with scary frequency, and even the garden topiary lurches into macabre existence in this atmospheric shocker scripted by King from his own novel and directed by ace King adaptor Mick Garris (Sleepwalkers, The Stand).

A Great Upgrade
This is better than the movie. Other than the special effects which I'm sure at the time was at the infancy of AI, the writing of the script kept my attention and focus on the sinister happenings and unsettling atmosphere of the OVERLOOK HOTEL. The unnecessary racist dialogue that Stanley Kubrik used in the movie towards Dick Halloran has been removed. The characters are more intelligent. Wendy isn't week and dependant and Jack is dark, not crazy. Danny is much more powerful in this version and he ghosts are more active in this story. There are some scenes that could've been left in however the slight reimagining of the story does not take away from the quality of this classic horror.

A star left stung
I love this miniseries so much I don't care. I enjoy it way more than Kubricks version and I want the world to know. It's just a ton of fun and more true to the book but yeah..90s
