Great value for the money...A feature rich smartphone.
My daughter is going to college after this summer. She is using a 4-year old Huawei Mate2 phone. She complains the phone's slow response. So, I am searching for a replacement phone for a while. Got this Honor View 10 on Amazon prime day event. Based on the features and capabilities this phone is offering, the $399 price is a steal.I am not the type of person spending top dollar pursuing the latest and best models on everything, period. I am very value oriented. Like the old saying, price is what you pay, value is what you get. This phone fit's my value-seeking profile...I end up purchasing one for my daughter and....one for myself. This Honor View 10 phone is fast. HiSilicon's Kirin 970 process is at the same class against Qualcom's Snagdragon 830 (not 845). Or better than Qualcom's older 7xx or 6xx chips still used in quite some new released phone models these days. The generous 6GB ram is definitely a key factor helping the phone run faster. Even the up-coming new iPhone (due 9/2018) comes with only 4GB ram (per industry pro's speculations). In general, big ram makes a phone more future proof as new apps tends to take more ram space. The included 128GB storage space is not a big deal to me, but it is important for college kids as they tend to take photos, video clips a lot. Not to mention that they download tons of music, or even movies.Yes, it has a micro SD card slot. But with 128GB space, not sure I would care about the support of micro SD card or not. Not to mention that files can be automatically backup to the cloud (the phone provides that setting.).Yes, it comes with some pre-installed apps and some of them can't be uninstalled. But with this generous 128GB space, not a big deal to leave them there. The capacitive-based finger print sensing/authentication technology is pretty mature at this point. This phone's finger print authenticating operation is very fast. Virtually don't feel any lag. The moment I touch the home button, the phone is unlocked.Surprisingly, the phone comes with a facial recognition feature also. I can't comment on the false authentication rate. I perform my own limited testings, it seems working great. The facial recognition process is also very fast. Just press the power button (not the home button) and the phone is unlocked right away (as it sees me). This feature is a up-side surprise to me.It has NFC, not sure I would use that feature for paying in supermarket using phone directly.Battery life is good. One charge lasts for 2 days in my use case as I don't play game or watching video on smartphone. Some people don't like the default UI, but it takes only few second to change it to generic Android UI. Not a big deal really.Audio speaker is pretty loud. No complaint here.During my one month ownership of this phone, Huawei has already push out one security update to my phone. That's good. I never got any system update in my previous phone (4-year ownership). My previous phone has a 6.2 inch screen size. That is too big to carry around in my pocket. Honor View 10's 5.99 inch screen size with 16:9 screen ratio is far more easier to fit into my pocket.I know this phone is not water-proof before I purchase. So, not really a down-side for me.The only one feature that I hope to have is OIS (optical image stabilization). This phone does not have OIS in its camera module. However, lately (8/2018), I read news release that Huawei is releasing SW update to enable the EIS (Electrical image stabilization) function in Honor View 10. They are releasing the SW update to India market at this point to confirm the releasing process is smooth. Once that's confirmed, they will release the SW update to other markets. I look forward to using the EIS function for improving photo taking quality. Also, when taking video while walking, the video would be far more stable.Too bad, Honor View10 does not support radio (I know this before purchasing). No kidding here, I listen to radio using my previous smart phone. I am using a small portable radio device now.All in all, with $399 price, this phone is really a great value buy. With the up-coming EIS feature included, I really don't have any complaint for this phone.*****Update 8/17/2018:Just found out the latest system update (Build# C567) already released the EIS feature. Open the camera app, tap video selection, open the setting. Scroll down the settings, there is a "Stabilizer" option. The EIS is available for video with 1080p at 30pf.*****Update 8/31/2018:Bummer!! just flew back after dropping my daughter to college, she email me that she dropped the phone. Two lessons are learned here, buy insurance policy to cover gadgets for teenagers, and get a real good glass protector for kid's smartphone.

Great bargain for what you get
This is a review of the 6GB/128GB unlocked U.S. version. This is a great phone, wife has been on her new V10 constantly for 3 days so it's been stress tested already.- Battery life, excellent, will easily last all day with constant social media use including uploading videos, picture and video taking, emails and texting, installing apps, etc. I'm sure it will go for days if you're just using for calls or on standby. Not quite as good batter life as the Galaxy, but also $300 less...- Processors and RAM are fast. Lightning fast. Can't say if a Snapdragon 835 is faster than the Kirin 970 or not (in tests they are), but this phone is so fast with 6GB ram and the 8-core a comparison is really useless (unless you want to also compare price, $429 vs $729+ for a Samsung or Apple)... in my opinion in "real time" webpages load so fast the difference is irrelevant.- Camera is great, including low light. Phone immediately updated software so got Huawei's latest OTA, no issues at all, installed seamlessly. No issues with camera as some others have stated, probably resolved in the software updates.- Oreo 8.1 and the Huawei EMUI is great, no issues.- Use with T-Mobile, no issues at all, installed the SIM from old phone and gtg, no problem connecting to 4G/LTE (make sure you get the US version/US warranty phone).- Bluetooth and wi-fi work fine. Getting download speeds of over 150MB/s and upload over 30MB/s from my home router. Apps install lightning fast.- Fingerprint scanner works great, haven't used the facial scanner and don't want to.- LCD screen is clear with excellent definition, color, and contrast, and adapts very well to changing light conditions. No it's not OLED but the color and contrast are still great, and it's also not $800+! It's fine as is.- Internal storage is huge, so probably won't ever need the SD card slot (SIM card 2 and SD share the same slot, so it's one or the other), so will be nice when we travel overseas to have the 2nd SIM card option, in the meantime have a mico SD there we'll probably never need, but I like to save pics/videos/music to the SD card vice the phone -- with thsi phone you have that option, many of the other new phones have no SD card slot... boooo!- Using the Huawai Phone Clone app, all data transferred in only a few minutes using NFC from the old to new (this) phone.- Volume and sound quality are good, of course better with headphones (and yes it has a headphone jack, yeah!)- Only con, no wireless charging, but not an issue for me... with USB 3.0/lightning cable phone will go from 1%-100% in little over an hour. OK, and it's not waterproof, but only a con if you drop it in the toilet or laundry, also not an issue for me (so far). Can't understand any of the poor reviews, but appears in some cases they got the wrong phone (not the U.S. version) or had issues with their carrier (non GSM networks). IMHO some people just complain about anything, like having a plastic vice metal SIM/SD card tray... seriously? Or maybe they just got just a lemon, but have to say the one we got is a peach! My 2nd choice was the (also) Huawei Mate 10 Pro (which IS water resistant), but the View 10s came in $100 cheaper with same hardware (and has an SD card slot and headphone jack). Bottom line, this is a phone with flagship hardware (almost as good as the Galaxy 9) at a mid-range price!
