Tapo TP-Link C520WS 2K QHD 4MP Outdoor Pan/Tilt Security Smart Wi-Fi Camera,IP66 Weatherproof, AI Detection,360° Visual Coverage,Starlight Colour Night Vision, Works with Alexa&Google Home

Here are my thoughts on this beautiful product. I will provide both the pros and cons and my conclusion on price to value.Pros I noticed:1: Decent build quality, easy wall or ceiling mounting, with an easy configurable stable app (compared to competition brands I have)2: Built-in AI human, pet, and vehicle detection seems very reliable (95%) for me. In 6 months; only 2 false notifications for humans were triggered.3: You get notified if a human, pet, or vehicle enters the surveillance area; each is individually configurable and sensitivity selectable. (On default itself it works like a charm for me)4: In my installation scenario, 15 to 20ft human detection works great in the morning and 10 to 15ft at night respectively.5: Manual pan tilt or scheduled patrol is possible to monitor the entire space it can cover.6: Light and customizable audio alarm with recorded audio as an alarm to scare intruders.7: IP66 (but recommended to avoid overexposure). Also, wired installation other than wifi is possible that can be connected to a compatible NVR.8: The audio recording and talkback option is great and I can share even OTP clearly with delivery agents when not at home.9: Can save preset locations that can rotate the camera to that specific location with a click. Also when the camera tracks movement it rotates (if tracking is enabled) and returns to the preset surveillance area when no activity is detected in the new area it moved to in 15 seconds or so.10: Intelligent night mode can trigger a light on the camera and can record video in color too.11: Masking the camera or covering the camera can trigger an alarm which can be configured with sensitivity.Cons I noticed:1: Alarm sound is a bit low compared to competition brands (But not very little so it can't be considered a con but a comparison).2: For the Alarm trigger; only one configurable time period is possible (ie; one-time period a day and NOT multiple periods a day for any day)(ie; if we set the alarm for night 10 to morning 6; we cannot set one more for morning 10 to 12 for the same day)3: Offsite cloud storage, Rich image notification (notification with image proof) is only with a paid subscription (with no paid subscription; you will lose recording if the device is stolen).Some thoughts:A: I've seen some saying there is a lag or delay in viewing the video in the app; for me, it happened initially and then i upgraded my router to a fast mesh router which solved the issue which points to an issue with wifi connection and not with the device itself.B: I wish the camera had auto patrol when abnormal sound is detected and a Windows/macOS app to use it with the computer.C: Wish there was an option to save recordings to 3rd party FTP space or USB plugged into a compatible router.D: On motion triggered setup with approx 40 motion triggers on average a day my 256GB microSD holds recordings of 180 days/6 months approx before it rewrites old ones.Conclusion:Overall one of the stable and reliable standalone AI cameras for the price it is offered. I've bought Tapo C320WS which has 4MP sensor but when used outdoors (not supposed to be used outdoors but for comparison sake) the image quality is far better in the C520WS. So if you plan to keep a camera outside; go for this C520WS rather than any indoor cameras. I bought this for 5.3k during its launch and now it is available for less here on Amazon.I am adding some pictures of the product and screenshots of video samples from day and night; so that you can figure out the quality that would help you with decision-making. + Excellent value given the controls, customisations, features and AI detection elements provided by Tapo at this price point.+ IR Night vision is great, color NV is good+ object detection is great~ person detection is good. It struggles with clothes flailing in windy conditions detecting it as a person, triggering false notifications/alarms.+ Alarm is loud and clear (decent speaker)- microphone quality is average- Camera motor could have been better as it jerks sometimes when rotating (tracking, pan/patrol mode) thereby affecting the video recording. I have observed this with all my Tapo units.- Cloud service costs > 5k annually but needs some serious fixes & polish. I am logged into my Tapo account both on my tablet and my phone, but the camera settings, away/home mode settings, etc. were not synced at all. I had to duplicate effort to configure the same settings on my tablet just so that I don't accidentally tap something and overwrite them.Granted most issues are software and user-experince related which can be sorted with future updates, but they shouldn't sell the product in this state given it isn't exactly cheap.Overall I would recommend buying two Tapo C320WS fixed-viewpoint cameras (motorless) instead of the C520WS.

I did a lot of research(many hours n days) and this is the best selection in the category for the price. Spend a little extra and get this one for what you get in return.Installation:- I have installed it outside my Apartment main door(covered corridor) which receives different amount of lights during various times of the day. The power adapter cord is long and i keep the adapter plugged inside the apartment with the wire going outside through my doorbell drill hole(nobody can cut power supply) The installation was smooth, and easy. You can install it on the wall or ceiling, whichever provides the best view as per your layout. I used a junction box to roll n pack extra wire, and lock the connectors(nobody can disconnect outside).Initial Configuration: Easy through TaPo app. Has a simple guided step by step built in the app.Coverage & View: Provides a broad range- horizontal & vertical, as per specs. Pan & tilt feature is amazing. Can use it live sitting across thousands of kilometeres via the mobile app while watching live feed.Camera Performance- The 2k QHD 25fps picture quality is great, two way communication with speaker and mic are on point, motion detection, person detection are accurate with immediate notifications and very importantly the Tapo App by TP-Link is the best out there amongst all the security camera apps, both in terms of features and ease of use.WiFi Connectivity- This is very important point which people often ignore. My Fast WiFi router is near the apartment main door, and hence 2.4GHz signals are very strong n stable, for optimum performance and interaction through App.Mobile App Performance: The Tapo App by TP-Link is the best out there amongst all the security camera apps, both in terms of features and ease of use. Actually it should be advertised as much as product itself. It is miles ahead.Spotlight: It does a good job.Low light/Night performance- It's low light detection and automatic switching to mode is good.Storage & Recording: I am using "Sandisk 256GB High Endurance Video microSDXC card" with this, for local storage. Important point:- Storage cards for any security cameras are different than one for your mobiles. This one is designed for it.(You can check TP-Link Product page for the list).Updates: Reliable and timely firmware as well as app updates.Other important features: Raise Alarm Feature, Tamper Alarm on detection, pet detection, vehicle detection, Line crossing detection, patrolling mode - the feature list available for this specific camera in TaPo app is amazing. You can choose what you want to enable.Go for it !
