Great!
Out of all the cat doors on amazon, this is the best one. It installs very easy, and is very functional. I like hot you can lock it in either way, or both ways. The brown matched my wood door very nicely.

Works Well and Looks Good.
This works well, and it looks good. I'm not impressed at all with the buttons though. I don't use them, but I would rather have a piece of plastic to snap into place when I wanted to stop kitty. I understand that it can be set to allow just entry or exit or both or neither, but I don't think they would stop a determined cat.I will be designing such a plug out of wood and weatherstripping so I can block it off during the winter months. Here's my tip to get your cat to use it. When it's dinner time, let your cat smell the bowl and then walk to the cat door. When the cat approaches, let the cat smell the food once more and then put it through the cat door. My cat didn't mind the door, but wouldn't bump it with his head to open it. I did it for him at first, and then I started gently pushing him into it. It only takes a small nudge. It took about two weeks before he started going in and out by himself.Edit: I bought this in June 2018. It is now December 2020. It worked perfectly until last night during a wet freezing night. It froze, and the cat was stuck outside. This morning, I had to tap on it quite a bit before I could open the door outward, but it wouldn't open inward. I had to hold the door open so he could come in. I came here to look for instructions on setting the four tabs that control whether the cat can go in and out. Didn't find them. Don't like that. From what I heard when I was drying off from my shower, the cat tried extremely hard to get in. Maybe one of the switches was partially moved by the cat. In any event, I don't want that to happen again, and posting a link to the instructions would have been helpful. Well, I'm a guy. I'm used to tinkering with stuff without any idea what I'm doing. Maybe it'll work this time.

Highly recommend the Cat Mate (#221) Locking Cat Door - Large
I had this cat door installed in my thin metal overhead garage door (by my handyman) in October 2013 and I love it. I live in Indiana and we have had a couple of record breaking Winters since the install and it has weathered just fine. The fine 'bristles' around the plastic flap have frozen up due to freezing rain/snow, but once loosened up with warm water, they were fine. I think it is very efficient in keeping the cold air out and the four-way locking is a nice feature as well.Just a tip if you are having trouble teaching your cats to use the door or in my case, for semi-feral cats that I couldn't get close enough to for 'hands on instructing' I placed a large black binder clip (used in most offices, black metal binder with silver prongs) on each side of the plastic flap with the prongs out on each side which caused the door to stay propped open (open toward the interior of the garage) so the cats could easily make their way in and then also have easy access out. Once they got used to this, I replaced the binder clips with the medium size binder clip and moved the clip down a bit which made the opening smaller, but still the same concept, and then after a couple weeks or so I eventually removed the clips all together and they had it figured out by then. I plan to buy two more to have installed in an outdoor cat house. I highly recommend this cat door.Thank you.

Lock broke before it was installed
Bought mainly to see if cats would use it. 3 of the 5 used it constantly, 1 would use it only if a human held it open. It was installed into plywood and plywood then inserted into sash window. It wasn't intended to be permanent for us. The door does not always close completely and doesn't stand up to weather extremes even when it does. One of the locks ( which are simply plastic pieces) broke off before we even installed it. I would not consider this door a permanent solution unless maybe for an exit to garage or a sunporch. It's not awful, it does work; it's just does not meet our needs.

Poor Design & Instructions
This is the third pet door I've bought and installed. The previous two were metal doors and they were rock solid. This is my first plastic door. I chose it because the price was right and because it's brown, it will blend better on the dark wood door. Also, since Amazon seems to have so many for sale - and with good reviews - I figured the plastic ones had to be good enough. Now, I'm not so sure.I can't even get the two door pieces to stay on and together. Metal screws into plastic - go figure - I guess someone thought this was an indestructible design. I disagree. It's barely hanging on. My cat would knock this off in an hour. So, I'm headed to Lowe's today to buy some new screws - and hopefully this will salvage the door installation experience. The instructions are just wrong - in a few places: the recommended drill bit - IMO - would render this useless because the screws would definitely not fit. And, the screw selection (they included 3 sets) instructions, based on the width of my door, recommends the middle length set - which was far too short. Then, moving to the only other choice - the screws stick out very far, and are very sharp - so I would be concerned about a pet getting hurt on these. I would have had to saw the ends off if they had actually worked and held the two pieces on.Very disappointing - what a waste of my time.Update: now it's bolted on rock solid after a trip to Lowe's.
