Got my hopes up too high
I wanted to love this and I'm giving it 5 stars anyway because I don't think it's Kitschs fault that I don't love it, my hopes were too high. I took a chance and bought this because I feel my water is much too soft, way too much chlorine, this filter seems to have more KDF than the others. When I bought this I thought it was metal but it's plastic, which isn't a huge deal, the build quality is still solid, the color is cute, install was easy even with my showerhead. The price was excellent. I just didn't notice a big difference, I leave the salon (which has reverse osmosis) looking like a goddess, I wash my hair at home and it's frizzy, brassy, and dull, same products, different water. I'm going to keep using it because I do notice a minor improvement.

Good product
Love this filter. Several toners didn’t work with my shower cash but this did.

Comparison of several filters
I live in St Pete, FL in a fairly new building.I used the "Drinking Water Test Kit w/ 21 parameters" from Amazon to check the water.Tap water ranked at about 80-100 on hardness, about 8.0 on pH, with all other markers of minerals, etc, being within parameters. The KITCH parctically did not change anything from the tap water test strip. Water hardness was the same and pH was the same. There was a very minor reduction of chlorine. The ANDAO did the best at lowering total chlorine down to a 1.Once again did nothing for pH or water hardness. The alkalinity was still around 100, which was within the parameters marked on the tube, but the water fell at about 100 on hardness. It lowers the QUAT/QAC reading from about 20 to <10.The 20-in-1 filter performed the same as other 2, in the sense that pH and hardness were not affected. The AQUABLISS did not appear to alter the water hardness, however alkalinity did go down to about 40! This was the only filter I tested that reduced alkalinity. The pH was only mildly affected by this, going down to about 7.8. All other markers were within recommended parameters but not significantly changed from original tap test strip. All the filters did a good job with fluoride.Note:Just to make sure the testing strips were not defective, I tested a bottle of purified water. The pH immediately showed up as 6.0, 25 on hardness (which ranks as soft), 0 on chlorine, 0 on alkalinity.

This review is EARLY. It may change.
One of the reasons I chose this was because the filter contents consisted mainly of chorine & chloramine removal media, rather than 15 to 20 layers of vastly different media types, each with some sort of separator membrane on either side, which, by themselves would impede water flow regardless of impurities removed. So many negative reviews (of this AND others) say it impedes water flow. I apprenticed for master plumbers throughout all of my high school and college summers, and all I can tell you is....Faucets are like snowflakes... no two are exactly alike. Everyone's plumbing is different, and what works for me isn't guaranteed to work for someone else, and vice-versa.This Kitsch Shower Head Filter did not impede my shower's water flow at all. The shower head itself can affect how the filter reduces or doesn't reduce water flow. I use a good quality, non-modern, fixed basic round pattern shower head that's had the flow restrictor removed, I clean it when I notice the need, and it seems to like the Kitsch filter just fine. In addition, the offset design adds only minimal extension of your shower head. It's only been a week, and I'm keeping track of how long it'll be until I notice reduction in flow, indicating a needed filter replacement. Will amend my review at later date.

Updated: water flow reduced and debris
Updati: after a couple of months the pressure in my shower died and found out that whatever is in this filter, backflows and builds up, ultimately blocking the flow significantly. I don't recommend this product anymore.Old review: I'll start by saying this: it's not a water softener! Now, if you're ok with that statement, then this filter does exactly what they say it does. I'm pleased with the way water feels, and can tell the filter works. I've had a water softener before, and although it's not the same, this product performs really well if you consider the price and the convenience of a quick and easy installation. Regarding the flow, I installed the filter along with a booster so I can't complain at all, which is also why I can't really tell if it reduces the water output.NOTE: I kinda felt that it took a couple of days before the filtration started working 100%; the first time I used wasn't as great as the following ones, but this is just my personal experience... I wonder if the materials inside needed to soak water in to expand a bit and produce more effective results, I don't know though. I highly recommend it.

Poor water pressure within 5 days use..
I truly wanted this to work out and negate the comments regarding the poor water pressure issue. Sadly it did not. Within the first week, with in 5 days, the pressure diminished greatly. It’s important to note that I was the only user in my household with one short shower per day, for perspective. If you can afford the time and cost of replacing the filter cartridge every 5 days, then this might work for you. However the water did feel softer and cleaner, if that makes sense.

Does not soften water :(
The title says it is a water softener. Sadly it definitely is not. That’s the primary reason I bought this one. I tested the water before and after installing this and again after a few weeks of use. It has zero impact on the hardness level. That’s the only problem with my water. Whomp whomp. The housing for the filter is really nicely made though. It’s sturdy and easy to install. I didn’t notice any reduction in pressure like some other users seem to. Doesn’t leak or anything like that.
