Be careful, it arrives sharp.
I received a very nice wooden salad bowl as a gift, and an OK, but not very sharp mezzaluna/ulu type knife was included with the bowl. Great bowl, less than great knife. I went looking for a replacement, and found this R Murphy item. Sounded good, I bought it, and it works great. It's very well made, and it's very sharp. Nothing else to add. Great knife, watch that edge, make salad. Well done, R Murphy.

Second to none.
As a descendant of the people who used the ulu for thousands of years in Alaska, this is by far the best commercially made ulu. I bought one for my daughter, my wife and mom really like it and that's saying alot. Will buy again.

Difficult to sharpen
Single bevel and difficult to sharpen. Good for cutting or chopping veggies.

the perfect gift- also BUY A CUT GLOVE
Luckily a cut clove is mandatory in the kitchen I work in at. Its taken time and practice, but the lack of pain I feel in my hand and wrist as a result from the shape of the Ulu handle and blade.

Was a little deceived about the edge protector
Love the Ulu but thought the edge protector was a woodblock (picture right across knife care) its a piece of plastic? Came very well wrapped.

Item doesn't match picture, low quality product
On immediately on opening this knife I'm struck by two things. First, the product does not match the photograph. The blade shape is moderately different and the wood handle is a dark colored wood, not a light colored wood.Going on, the wood used on the handle is extraordinarily cheap and low quality. It's the kind of wood you would find on a very low end steak knife from the 1980s.The handle is unsanded and unsealed giving a rough texture and allowing it to absorb liquid and germs from whatever you're chopping. Going further, my handle also had spots that were so unfinished that they were "frizzy" with splinters sticking up through them.To make the knife minimally usable I'm going to have to dremel down the splintered rough spots, sand the handle and seal it.The blade cover is what it is. It's an ill-fitting piece of kydex that's been folded over. It will stay on as long as you don't futz with it but I wouldn't trust it to stay on in a draw where it's being banged against other items or around small hands. I will have to get out my heat gun and press to make this safety item useful.Overall the build quality of this knife is bottom tier and totally unacceptable for a cooking tool. Frankly, even mall ninja swords are better made than this.I'm going to end up doing several hours of work to turn this item into a usable cooking tool. Had I known how poor the quality of this knife was going to be then I would not have ordered it in the first place.I haven't examined the blade edge yet but I fully expect to be equally disappointed in this piece of flea market garbage that I paid $65 for.

Best pizza slicer!
Slices through pizza like butter. So much better than disk cutters. Easy to clean & sharpen. Also many other uses.
