Great Linux virtualization platform
Lot of server for the money, and it's even surprisingly quiet. Condition was virtually new, including protective plastic film still in place on one side, and it was well-packaged. The USB key with a Windows 10 OOBE installer (for re-installation only) was a nice touch. An HP keyboard and mouse were also included.I'm running Ubuntu Linux 20.10 on it as a KVM virtualization platform after saving an image of the 500 GB SSD, in case I ever want to switch back to Windows 10, or if it has to be returned. The 2 TB HD was just blank NTFS formatted. For now it's plugged in to a Kill-A-Watt to monitor power consumption. It draws just over 200W of power when idle. When I ran an application to put load on all 16 cores, that increased to just over 400W, and the fan speed increased a little.Per core the Xeon E5-2670s run about the same speed as a Core i7 laptop, and that's plenty. Just a couple minor disappointments: I hoped it'd have 8 x 16 GB RDIMMs - as some other reviewers reported. Mine has 16 x 8 DIMMs - meaning any RAM upgrade would require a swap vs. adding to existing. Also, it cannot boot headless; there must be a monitor attached to the graphics card designed in the BIOS as primary, though I found that monitor can be powered off.

This Workstation is a BEAST!
As this HP Z820 Workstation is a Refurbished Computer, my review will be broken down in two parts. This first is the HP Quality that is inherently built into this Workstation. The build date on my unit was from 2013, and even as an eight year old computer it is impossible to build anything close to this for the money. The build quality is second to none. It is very quite, and is working flawless. The second part of this review is specific to the Amazon Seller: PC Server & Parts, that sold my specific workstation to me. My HP Z820 came with 128GB of Memory, 16 Core 2.6GHz CPU, 500GB SSD Hard Drive, plus a 2TB Traditional Hard Drive, as well as two NVIDIA Quarto 4000 Graphics Cards. Windows 10 Professional was already installed. The Amazon listing said that the workstation would have 16 - 8GB Memory cards, but I was pleased to find I actually revived 8 - 16GB Memory cards, so if I ever want to upgrade to 256MB of memory it will be very easy to do so. Also, it was to come with the 850W Power Supply, but mine had the upgraded 1125W Power Supply. This workstation is sold with no wireless network card, but in my case this is fine as it sits right by my router. The NVIDIA Quarto 4000 Graphics Cards are getting up there in age, but both work fine. The only thing that was odd, was that my old Dell 21" Monitors hooked up to the workstation via the DVI to DVI cable worked right away. But when I hooked up a new 27" Monitors via DispayPort to HDMI, I had to force the NVIDA App to find the display, which if I had not had the old monitors, I would not have been able to boot up using my new monitors. This workstation will service us for many more years to come.

Horrible Computers - say away -33% ARRIV EIN WORKING CONDITION
1st purchase 1 and it was perfect. NO issues. The 2nd had bad memory and had to be replaced. Against my better judgement, I tried #3. Will not boot. Software not installed correctly. Cant contact seller without Amaxon bots. I now need to return and I have to take it to UPS myself. DO NOT PURCHASE THESE. ONLY 33% ARRIVE IN WORKING CONDITION. When I notified them on the 2nd unit, I was expected to open the unit and check all connections. NOT going to check there work on this one. YOU SHOULD PICK UP AT MY BUSINESS AT YOUR EXPENSE. Needed to install next week.

Amazing for the price
I was looking for a multi-core system to run ESXi on and run multiple VMs for various projects. This box fit the bill perfectly. The good points:a: It's quietb: It's fast enough for me, I'm only running 4 vms currently but they are all running faster than when on my Mac Trashcan (6 core), that's probably because I was over-committing cores on the Mac. This box is practically idle at this pointc: There is room for expansion, lots of room.Nits:I removed the 2nd video card since the version of ESXI isn't doing PCI passthrough, that's not a slam on the box but I removed the card to keep down the power usage.Using a watt meter I am at < 200 watts with all VMs doing light work. Again I'm not doing any video. I do hope to upgrade to something that will let me leverage the video cards for machine learning but that's down the road.I did do some testing with Ubuntu (dual boot) - to see what it's like to push all 32 (16 cores + hyperthread) and running the Lammps simulator it's pretty fast. It's faster than my Mac Pro due to the fact that I can throw cores at the tests. All in all for the price this is amazing.
