Q: Does it work on dark hair?

No this is to highlight gray or blonde hair. This washes out when shampooed. Now if you put a dark color like brown on brown that would work. But not light on dark

Q: Do you apply this in the shower or do you have to apply to like permanent color?

After I wash and towel dry my hair, I shake the bottle and make sure I don’t have clothes on that I don’t want stained. I bend over the bathroom sink and shake some of the rinse on my hair and work it through the hair. Then I stand up and make sure the rinse got applied around my hairline. And that’s it. It is very liquid unless you use the mouse type of Roux rinse. But I like the results very much and stick to the liquid. But you could do this in the shower and that would work fine. But you don’t rinse it off. If all of this is too complicated you could ask if your hair dresser would apply it for you after a shampoo.
