Q: How should I install this item if the newel post is sitting on carpeting, which is over a cement basement floor?

You need to cut the carpet out from under the post. Otherwise you won't get solid contact with the post. The other thing you will need going into concrete is some type of anchoring screws. Tap-con screws work really well, and you don't have to drill a huge hole like with other concrete screws.

Q: I have 6x6 posts. Do you have that size to buy?

Q: Will this fit a 3" wide newel post or is it too big ?

They are measured exact. I bought a 3 1/4" kit for a 3 1/4" newel post and it was perfect. If you buy 3 1/4" kit, you will have a gap.
