Brother Mobile Color Page Scanner, DS-820W, Wi-Fi Transfer, Fast Scanning, Compact and Lightweight

Works great via usb. Has local sd card storage or scan to pc/laptop. Easy software and very good images. We are using this to digitize about 200 lbs of various sizes of old pictures. It’s helping us to categorize, and file all our photos. Love it !!!!!! Plus it’s small so easy to carry with you and move about the house.

Note: I am a IT support person for a large university.Condition of unit, barely used for 8-9 months. Still in the 1-year warranty period.Purchased in May, it's January and the unit won't turn on, with USB power plugged in or not. Tried a couple different cables, but otherwise not much one can do with this thing to troubleshoot with no power.Contact Brother live support, and after a very long hour and a half, of doing the exact same troubleshooting, plugging it in with various micro USB cables to prove it's not the cable, the support person said "It's the battery. We don't cover the battery. Buy another battery for $51.37 and see if that fixes it". That's a battery for a third the price we paid for the unit, and we don't even know if it will fix it, or if we can recover that cost if it doesn't. For a unit that's still under warranty. That they don't know if it's the battery or not either.We can promise, if we do buy a battery, and it doesn't fix it, this is the last product from Brother we buy. Probably will be anyway. Certainly won't be recommending them to anyone else either. Feels pretty close to a scam.

Compact, light, fully featured AND a great price. It does everything I need at the office, home office and on the road.It doesn't do duplex scanning. That's OK for me. Most of the papers and receipts I scan is one sided anyway. And if I, occasionally, need to scan two sides, I'll just have to feed the other side one more time.Scans to memory card, to my desktop and to my iPad. Great for on the road scanning.Very satisfied!

This scanner works great and does not seem made cheap. I rated 4 stars instead of 5 because you cannot use your internet while connected to the scanner to download docs. I am using an andriod table, if you are using a pc or something that has usb you can use internet and scanner connection at the same time. If my tablet had an sd card slot I could have just used that. So I connect to my scanner, scan all my stuff and use the recomended app to download the docs to my table, then I re connect to the wifi and upload to dropbox because you only have two choices, dropbox or facebox. I already pay for amazon prime, but its takes extra steps to do it that way. Still did not figure out how to scan as pdf. Called brother and they have great customer service, my only complaint was its made in china and not the U.S. They said they hear that a lot which is good news. Also when u call Amazon and u get connected to another country, ask for someone in the U.S. To support American jobs.Dont you hate these long reveiews?

Only had this a day so perhaps not enough time to really put it through its paces so more first impressions. Overall it works well if you forget about the WiFi side and poor app/interface software. The software ergonomics and usability are poor by todays standards. Seems almost like a hardware company with software as an afterthought.Good stuffIt scans pretty quickly and quality is good.Hardware looks good and seems solid.Simple operation if you just scan to the SD card or connect directly to PCBad stuffSoftware that comes with the scanner sucks, poor interface surprised really very basic, tried the BR receipts and gave up pretty quickly too much effort and configuration needed.Have to register to get the add-on software, its not on the CD that comes with it.Manual is overly wordy and complicated.Struggled with the WiFi could get it to connect directly and seemed (according to status LED) be connected to my router but could get the software to talk to it then. I was doing this on myMac rather than mobile or iPad, maybe that doesn't work, but that can't make sense.

Don't accidentally drop the battery in your bowl of soup while unnecessarily fiddling with it's parts. It'll cost you hours of trying to figure out how and where you can buy another battery, as it doesn't work even while plugged into the wall without the battery. And once you do finally figure out the number to call to ask for a replacement battery you'll flip your lid when you hear that it's $55 for new battery. You, like me, will probably think to yourself "Self, it just doesn't seem possible that the battery's value is almost half of the entire system itself." And then you'd be correct when answering yourself by saying "It's not, self. It's not. They're just screwing you because you're an idiot and you dropped your battery in your mushroom soup." To which you may quip back "Regardless my IQ, self, it just seems wrong." And if you did in fact say that to yourself then you'd definitely respond to yourself one last time with "That goes without saying, self. They are certainly not concerned with their customers once they've bought the product." 2 stars of spite for myself for dropping the battery in the first place. Otherwise 0 stars for sure.

Such a great buy, perfect for all of my needs. Works well for those who travel a lot, or those who don't want a big scanner to take up all their space. There are multiple settings to adjust the quality of a scan and it scans really well. You can carry it with you and scan to an SD card that comes with the scanner, or hook it up to your computer and scan directly to your computer.

Did not work out of the box. Won’t connect to my computer, won’t turn off, can’t download software. Unable to return it as I waited too long to open it. Terrible - don’t waste your time or money!
