I measured the opening with the clip (catch) pushed all the way back and it is 1/2 inch. Plenty of room to get it in. The trick is getting the retracted clip (catch) past it once it's in. That is your question. The clip at its at its narrowest point when you are opening or closing it is 3/8 inch. I would say that if your advertised 3/8" tube light, is actually 3/8 inches, you should be good to go. Even if it was slightly bigger, it should smoosh through. All the rope lite type stuff I've seen is soft and pliable. Check yours for squishiness. I'm no expert. Actually I haven't purchased or touched a tube lite or rope lite for at least 40 years. I say yes.... should fit nicely.
