Does this unit have a metal impeller?

Dr Doug says yes, mike g. says no. The BV5600 already has a recall on it regarding the bottom lid coming undone to pose a laceration issue. In other words, you can lose fingers possibly if you don't get the new revised, better, improved, lite, less filling and lo-cal lid cover provided free by B & D. I bought the Harbor Freight $49 blower/vacuum unit and had to have my tailor sew in a metal zipper to replace the plastic one after returning three bags. But the plastic impeller broke finally after two year. Got brittle, I guess. I would suggest getting a metal impeller in the model you chose.

It states this thing needs batteries. For what? Anyone know or is it a mistake.

I love mine, but it is electrical. I have a very long extension cord and do a wonderful edging/cleaning job (275 feet) of my corner plot in 1/2 hour. Maybe there is a battery run model that your reader is complaining about?

what do u have to do to swich from vac to blower? gotta change a lot of stuff?

If you don't have the suction tube on there is a shaped attachment that takes it's place. Then take the straight tube and place it where the bag goes. This is how to go from vac to blower.
