My MSI Dragon Game laptop.
This machine is Awesome! Nice sturdy construction. Easy to open and upgrade., Lots of ports for USB, Video, and other. Fast and powerful. Nice keyboard with a fairly solid feel. Great 17 inch Full HD Screen. Now the cons. Computer came loaded with bloatware. Will agree with another reviewer, the hard drive is slow, very slow. That did not hurt my rating because I planned on removing that drive anyway. Machine now has 16 Gb of ram, 480 Gb SSD as main drive, 1 TB spinning drive as secondary hard drive innstaled in the CD-Rom Bay with an ORICO LX Series Drive Mount.,Sound Blaster X-FI Pro as external sound card. Wireless X-Box one Controller for gaming. This machine plays the new DOOM in full HD.. Do recommend this machine, Just replace the hard drive with an SSD.

Love the 17" screen and great colors!!
Love the size of the screen. Price is great compared to others with the same guts. Easy to set up right out of the box.Only issue I had was Windows 10 took 4 hrs to upgrade all their updates. Didn't get to see the final screen until the next day after it was completed.Looks like I will be able to move to Windows 10 from 8.1 with not many issues. So far.Tech at Bestbuy said this MSI company is one of the best out there, but still tried to direct me to the Dell, that cost more. And had the 15'' screen as opposed to the MSI 17".Came home and ordered this, had it 2 days. And I saved couple of hundred $$'s !! Plus, this one has a dvd/cd installed!! How hard are they to find if you want one included? Which I did, just in case I need one some day.

Keyboard keys failed. Going to have to dismantle and put in a new keyboard
I don't know if it's the steelseries keyboard or if I have a defective model, but various keys have stopped working or work only sometimes. Even as I am typing this review I have to copy/paste every 'L' character I use because pressing the keyboard simply doesn't work. I am very disappointed in this laptop. I guess I've learned my lesson for wanting gaming AND portability, it's just not feasible at this price point so they must have cut costs when it comes to the keyboard.

Good laptop. I like it.
A month into using this laptop and I'm happy with it. The screen is bright and has a generous angle for viewing, the exhaust goes out the back so as to not warm up any drinks on my desk, the chassis is sturdy enough to be picked up with one hand, and it seems to have plenty of power for light gaming, though all I've played on it so far is STALKER. My biggest complaint is that the keyboard command for changing the volume requires you to hold the function key and then press the left or right directional arrows. This means that it takes two hands, and I can't do it when I'm playing a game, I have to switch back to the desktop. Maybe there's a workaround but I haven't looked into it. Oh and the plastic used to make the laptop shows oily finger marks like nothing else.

Best cost to power ratio available
Replacing a Asus G74 that has lasted me since 2011. The video card finally stroked out so new laptop for me. Did my usual excessive research and picked this. Heard MSI was a good brand and wanted to give them a try. My plan was to get the best base parts you cannot usually upgrade (i.e. CPU, video and screen) and this baby was perfect for the price. The HDD and 8gb RAM really bottleneck this laptop but I didn't think this model was meant for running on stock parts. Why else is there 2 ram slots and an empty M.2 port? Upgrade ram and pop in ssd and this runs like a laptop twice it's cost. Best laptop buy out there.

Okay.
This looks really good on paper, for the price. It was to replace a 3-4-year old MSI CX-61 with a pentium chip, 4GB RAM, and a 1TB 5400 HD. Yet, after spending hours updating drivers, uninstalling bloatware, dealing with W10--it's about the same speed. In fact, my little machine can handle many more documents and browser tabs open at the same time, for much longer. HOW IS THAT POSSIBLE??!! I understand the price, but I don't understand why it doesn't perform much better. CPU benchmark on the new CPU is more than 3X better than the pentium, RAM is 2X, the HD is faster at 7200...On my old machine I can keep Firefox open for hours, on this one I can't keep it open for more than an hour before it freezes the computer on and off. Yeah, I can have 600 browser tabs open on my old MSI, but can't get 100 on this one... In Chrome, I can't get more than 40 without having to restart Chrome at least once a day.It has a hard time with documents, too. On my old machine I can have maybe 10 open, but on this machine, it's more like 5 before it crashes. The screen is nice. The speakers are much louder than my old one's (good). You see smudge marks all the time on the keyboard where your hands rest. The fn screen display brightness and volume control are good, but it doesn't get dark enough, even with a blue light fixer.Installing another OS, I found out the POWER SOURCE WAS TOO WEAK to run the CPU correctly--not good, MSI.JTLYK, Intel's diagnostic software couldn't find the problem. I'll update after fixing this.I added a PCIe SSD; didn't seem to help much. However, the included screw (good they included it) stripped with the smallest of force, so it took a while to get out (NOT GOOD!!)--I guess they didn't want to spend the extra $.002 to have a decent screw. Had to use another one. I tried a power reset; nothing. Trying a factory reset; should help.If I had to do it over, I definitely wouldn't buy it.

The sound quality is not great

It's been great!
I've been using this laptop specifically for gaming almost every day for the past year and a half. Playing everything from the first Command & Conquers to Fallout 4 and everything in between. I've never thermal throttled as long as you keep the bottom of the laptop elevated off of a table. Even after 30+ mods on Skyrim/Fallout for hours on high/ultra it keeps up.I have had some issues with the trackpad and keyboard. I'm very careful not to eat or drink around it but for some reason my L, P, T, and arrow keys stop working and start again randomly. I could contact MSI to have it fixed but I always use a wireless keyboard so it's not too big a deal.P.S. 4 star battery life is because it's a gaming laptop. I don't think it's ever meant to be unplugged. It lasts maybe 2 hours if you're playing solitaire on battery saver with the brightness all the way down.
