Great bin
Lovely bin. Not too bulky. Had the same one before, for a long time.

Genius design. Easy clean. No more smells.
Perfect size. Simple pedal design with a soft close lid. Lids locks open for easy emptying. Even comes with free sample bin liners. The two bins are the perfect size compromise for the amount of space it takes up and the volume of trash/recycling it will hold. The best bit is the Simplehuman bin liners. They fit perfectly, they’re strong, and they’re cheap. I ordered refills from the Simplehuman website and they arrived post free for less than I can buy standard liners from the supermarket. The bin itself is beautiful quality. You like German engineering? This is right up there. Good, no, great quality stainless steel outer skin and lid, resists finger marks and wipes clean in an instant. The pedal mechanism is reassuringly robust and it just works. Not many things are teenager proof but they haven’t managed to kill this yet after a year. The base has wheels at the back for easy maneuvering in tight spaces. The lid fits perfectly so no smells creep out overnight to stink out your kitchen. The plastics are kept to a minimum but what is used is super high quality and shows no sign of wear. One wipe with a damp microfiber cloth and it looks brand new again. Very smart design that will look great in even the most high class kitchens.6 stars all round.

Simple Human 38L waste bin
Much better now the lid is stainless steel. Weve had exactly the same except the old design and its just the lid that failed.

Are you comfortable with the price?
You either know if you're conceptually on-board with spending this much on a bin. I'm not going to sway you on that one. If you are okay with the price, this is a great bin. I'd ummed and ahhed between this one and the Joseph and Joseph bin which was a similar price, but pulled the trigger on this one and would recommend it for the following reasons.- The silent close mechanism. I work in an environment, with foot pedal bins with no silent close mechanism and it grates every time I use one of them. At home I don't want this. And a foot pedal bin is a must for the kitchen I think - it just makes waste disposal easier and cleaner.- The individual compartments - how have I thought I was doing rubbish right without having nice discrete compartments for waste and recycling. They are a good fit and easily removed if needs be. They may well feel a bit small, but I think that's going to be a matter for your home life. For a family of three it feels plenty big enough.- The bin bags. If you're the right kind of nerd, having bin bags designed to perfectly fit your bin and be pleasingly thick and robust, it is deeply satisfying. You get a starter set of both the kinds of bags with the bin and even their packaging is well-designed and allows you to pull a single bin liner out and even has a little tab that gets pulled out when you're running low. If you live in the states they even have an app to help you order more. Sadly not for the UK, though.Yes, it's expensive and the liner are more expensive than the ones you buy in Tesco. But it works so well. And either that's enough for you to justify the price or it's not.

Outstanding quality
Impeccably packaged so there were no dings or dents on the metal finish during delivery. This is a replacement to an identical Simplehuman bin that I had for 10 years. I briefly replaced it when it broke with something cheaper from another company, but the pedal mechanism quality was just not good enough so I immediately ordered another Simplehuman. The split waste/recycling receptacles are robust and easy to tuck away the liners through the hole in the back. The metal finish stays remarkably fingerprint-free. My partner thinks I’m ridiculous to be as pleased as I am about a new bin, but what can I say, this bin is great and looks beautiful in my kitchen. I have no doubt that it will also last me another 10 years!

Excellent product
We've had this for about 2 months. It's a waste bin for the kitchen but it's one of the most beautiful, elegant, easy to clean objects in the house. £150 for a bin seems extravagant but I think in this case, you really do get what you pay for.The simplehuman bin liners that came with it are an excellent fit and very strong and although replacements are expensive, I'll most definitely buy them from simplehuman as there's just no comparison with generic bags from the supermarket. The bin itself is beautifully designed with small air gaps at the base of the "bucket" the bag sits in so you can expand the bag easily without it billowing out of place. The stainless steel exterior is very easy to wipe down if anything gets spilled onto it. There is a recess at the back of the bin (I think it's supposed to be used for hiding any excess liner but with this there is no excess) so you can lift it with one hand whilst you vacuum underneath with the other and there's an extra half inch or so of the base at the back so that it doesn't push right up against a wall so you can get your fingers into that recess easily. All in all I'd be hard pressed to find a better bin and I'd definitely recommend it to anyone who's in need of a new kitchen bin.
