Nice device, manual needs improvement.
- The Plug-in "BIXTEK Natural Gas Detector … " is a compact light weight device. It beeps once then takes 3 minutes to start working after it is plugged in; a countdown timer (in seconds) indicates progress.- The green light (with no other indicators) shows that it is powered.- The USB cord (a little less than 5’ long) has a barrel connector on the other end that plugs into the detector. It would have been better if they used one of the many USB connectors instead in case the cable became lost or damaged.- I tested it with a lighter (butane) and barbeque grill (LNG) (neither was lit). It made a warbling sound after a few seconds and the LED display showed numbers greater than 3000. It could be heard on another floor with the doors open. It only makes a soft beep when you press the test button.- The manual is in a VERY small font. The only way I could read it was with magnification. It incorrectly indicates that the alarm uses “voice prompts”, the advertisement correctly does not mention voice. It does have some good information about placement dependent upon type of gas to be detected.

Extra measure of safety
I was excited to discover this product existed. We have 2 gas fireplaces in our home, as well as a cookstove and hot water heater. I worry all the time about potential gas leaks, and while we have carbon monoxide detectors, they aren't made for detecting natural gas. Having this little device, that easily tucks in a drawer, is an extra measure of protection that brings me a lot of peace.

Making sure there are no gas leaks in the house.
We have natural gas heating, hot water, and dryer and always concerned that there may be leaks. It's an older house and we recently had work done on the heaing system and replaced the hot water heater. So I wanted to make sure that everything was done correctly and we did not have any issues. I believe every thing is fine since after installing this gas detector, we did not get any alarms. Good thing to have in the house for peace of mind.

BIXTEK Natural Gas Detector
This Gas Detector provides peace of mind with it detecting natural gas. The only drawback is that it needs to be plugged in, which limit placement options and stops working when the power is out.

Works, but has conflicting recommendations for testing and replacement
This natural gas detector seems to work. Using the test outlined in the manual and the Amazon description, the alarm sounds within one second when butane gas from a cigarette lighter (with no flame) is released next to the detector. It should be noted that the instructions shown in the Amazon description are incorrect, as it specifies using a lighter that is lit, which would burn off the butane and prevent the detector from detecting flammable gas. The test should be done with the lighter releasing gas, but not lit. The manual says there are voice prompts from the detector (when it is turned on and when the alarm sounds), but I heard no voice prompts during turn-on, warm-up, and testing with flammable gas. It does sound an alarm with alternating tones that a person would generally interpret as a warning alarm. I subtracted one star because the manual and description do not match the actual unit (no voice prompts, incorrect instructions in the description for testing). The manual is a single folded 4x5 inch piece of paper with 2-point font, so it will require a magnifying glass to read the instructions. The packing list in the instructions does not match what is actually provided. It says it has two adhesive stickers (one is supplied and is sufficient). Two screws and two plastic pieces for attaching to drywall are provided (not mentioned in the packing list). The list also refers to a ‘rubber screw’, which is mysterious, as no such thing is included or needed. The instructions say that the detector has a ‘3-5 year’ lifespan and to replace it when that is exceeded. It needs to state the period for replacement, not give a range, so I subtracted another star for the vague instructions. I would use it as a backup detector (along with another unit from a different manufacturer), but not the only detector in the area where you wish to detect a leak.

Natural Gas Detector
We tried the lighter test where you let the gas out without the flame to test the detector. The alarm went off and the numbers went up on the screen. Works fine, looks well made. Not as loud as a smoke detector so keep in mind when purchasing a detector of how far it will be from your main living or sleeping area. Every home should have a gas detector if hooked up to gas. Good product, may purchase more for family as a gift.

Required device for Safety
This gas detector is a required safety device. It is not too sensitive. During testing I had to leave the gas open for quite some time. Maybe it’s a good thing to prevent nuisance alarms. The alarm is loud enough to hear and the unit looks well made.
