SOMEWHERE - MOVIE [Blu-ray]

Miss Coppola has directed four feature films.The peerless 'Lost in Translation', and 'The Virgin Suicides' are about restraint, one internally and the other externally imposed.'Somewhere' and 'Marie Antoinette' are about lack of restraint.They could not, however, be more different.The protagonist, Johnny, has it all and he has nothing. His recreations are casual sex and his Ferrari. He has freedom and money galore. But there is no focus to his life, that is until he is obliged to care for his pubescent daughter (Cleo). She is his emotional salvation and in her innocence is the antithesis of the other women in his life. She redeems him.The film moves unhurriedly, sometimes very slowly. It give the viewer time to think. But it never grabbed me. I remained indifferent to Johnny's existence. I didn't care about him; but I did care about Cleo, though not excessively because I knew she would not be corrupted. Hence it almost, but not quite, failed for me.Yes, I'll watch it again, but not for some time.

i am not a fan of Coppola's world, made of girlie women and hipsters (nut I loved Llst in translation). But here she managed to be honest and explicitely talk anout the world she knows better, that of star system and their families. With no moralism, she quietly and realistically tells a soft, oretty, yet also dramatic story with no emphasys or rethoric. Apparently a film about nothing, with a little story, but her talent lies exactly here: in putting the viewer inside a pn environment and make it live all their everyday details, moments of break and intimacy. Without sounding cliche. The first time I saw it I thought it was another of her annoying selfportrays. Watching it again I started to appreciate her storytelling. Not an easy one, although looking simple and easy

I thought this was a beautiful look at the life of a deeply sad actor, living what may be seen as a `dream' lifestyle but appearing ultimately lonely and depressed. This film does not have a beginning, middle and end as such; it instead observes the existence of the main character Johnny and takes a look at his changing attitude towards being a parent. If you liked Sofia Coppola's `Lost in Translation', you should like this as it has a similar feel. For anyone who just likes observing life and observing people this is a good film choice. If you are looking for action or something terribly gripping this film won't tick any boxes. However for the more philosophical film watcher this should hit the spot.

Couldn't connect with the characters at all. A man of high wealth and social status, who leads a vacuous life, realises at the end of a dull film that he should give it all up to be with his daughter. No depth to the story whatsoever and relies on cinamatography from Lost in Translation, but fails. Complete waste of time.

I wanted to like this film SO MUCH as I love Sofia Coppola and I hold up The Virgin Suicides/Marie Antoinette/Lost In Translation as some of my favourite films of all time. But no, I'm afraid for me 'Somewhere' was severly lacking in any of the charm, style or substance of Coppola's previous films. The story line is a bit bleak and boring. Perhaps this would have been ok if there'd been an amazing soundtrack and stylistically the film was beatiful, but being set in modern day America is all a bit too familar and plain. With no interesting environments or characters, I just got bored with it. Shame.

Like other Sophia Coppola movies you need to be in the correct mindset to enjoy it the most, you need to "drink" it slowly, if you do, it will come back to your mind one and again as a memory that makes you think. There are not so many of these. It is another Sophia Coppola's subtle, beautiful portrait of loneliness. A small work of art.

Rented this because some of it was filmed at my favourite hotel in the world - Hollywood's Chateau Marmont. The hotel is the only good thing about the film. I have no idea what it was about - literally nothing happens!

Purtroppo ho fatto il reso. La qualità video era PESSIMA. Non so se è un difetto del bluray, ma è come se le scene saltassero un frame e si nota veramente tanto. Amerei questo film in bluray e farei volentieri l'update da dvd a bluray ma probabilmente lascerò correre qualche mese prima di riprovare. Amazon come sempre efficiente con il reso.EDIT: A un anno circa ho provato a comprare il film, questa volta da un venditore esterno e fortunatamente non ho trovato lo stesso problema :)

j aime bcp sofai Coppola, elle est tres douée pour parler de l'adolescence, en prenant toute sortes de pretextes, fusse les premières années du regne de Marie Antoinette, film qui na déplu qu aux imbeciles....mais là:bof!...le film enfonce un peu des portes ouvertes...Comme je lui prefere la fraicheur des autres (le Bling Ring, malgré les côtés nécessairement grinçant: on lui a repprochée de ne pas assez marquer de recul face au comportement naivement et stupidement mais aussi pathetiquement aveuglé de ses jeunes mais c est justement ça qui rend le film attachant!)...

Sofia Coppola désacralise l'acteur et la vision de la vie de rêve que nous pouvons en avoir. Elle est très, très forte !Stephen Dorff est excellent dans ce rôle où il incarne un acteur extrêmement riche et célèbre avec sa belle gueule à la Brad Pitt, mais qui erre dans ce monde vide: un appartement dans un hôtel où il croise du personnel, des actrices en mal de sexe, des fans paparazzis, des ballades sans but dans sa Ferrari dans les rues de Beverlis Hills. La scène dans laquelle il doit rester 40 minutes presque sans respirer sous un masque de silicone pour prendre l'empreinte de sa tête pour des besoins d'effets spéciaux est criante de douleur. Il s'ennuie, il déprime. Ses journées sont rythmées par les appels de son agent pour se rendre à des conférences de presse, remises de prix, etc. et ses nuits par l'alcool et la solitude. Seule bouffée d'air frais, sa fille excellemment jouée par Elle Fanning. On ressent toute cette souffrance et la preuve que même s'il y contribue, l'argent (et la gloire) ne font pas le bonheur.

Aguantamos toda la película esperando que pasara ALGO que justificara dicha película, pero...nada. Película tan aburrida y sin sentido como sus personajes, que no hacen ni dicen nada que valga la pena en todo el film. Parece que Sofía Coppola piensa que con ser hija de quien es, le basta para alcanzar la fama.

Not as good as Lost in Translation but still glad to have seen it and own a copy.

J'ai regardé le film avec appréhension après toutes les mauvaises critiques, mais en fait, j'ai trouvé ce film juste génial. D'une force inouïe. Je comprends en même temps les gens qui n'ont pas aimé. C'est comme pour "Bling Ring", Sofia Coppola pousse sa logique et sa narration à bout, mais c'est aussi pour ça que c'est absolument unique. Anti-héros pathétique + séquences douloureuses qui durent + sentiment qu'il ne se passe rien, voilà pourquoi les gens fuient. C'est juste un film hyper noir, mais tellement tellement génial dans la forme et les personnages !!!!!!!

Despues de haber visto Lost In Translation, me animé a ver otra película de Sofia Coppola. Los planos y tomas son espectaculares, los dialogos "no hablados" bastante expresivos, estilo Lost in translation.Aun así, le falta bastante al guión, y tiene un final totalmente inacabado.La pelicula esta en ingles e italiano.

Un film à voir absolument si l'on apprécie les films de comédie,Réaliser par la superbe Sofia Coppola ce film mérite d'être dans ma Blu-raythéque,Comme tous les films de la si surprenante réalisatrice qu'est Sofia Coppola.

Habe den Film einfach geliebt und mit Elle Fanning einfach super besetzt .Gute Schauspieler in einem Film der nicht die Welt verbessert oder dich voll von den Socken haut aber der sehr viel Charme hat und zum nachdenken anregt !

Très beau film, émouvant, et solaire. Le DVD est à la hauteur du film, avec des petits plus. Très bon produit.

Dekadenz ist Sofia Coppolas Thema.. und ich liebe es.. selbst ohne Bill Murray ist ihr auch hier ein kleines, witziges Meisterwerk gelungen!!

J'avais acheté le dvd car la bande annonce au cinéma m'avait séduite mais en le regardant chez moi j'ai trouvé le temps long. C'est du Sofia Coppola mais bon c'est mou.

Da ich den Film nur im englischen Original gesehen habe, kann ich zur deutschen Synchronfassung nichts sagen.Aber davon abgesehen ist das ein sehr gut gemachter Film mit einem sehr guten Cast.
