An expensive way to broaden access to Region 2 shows!
I bought this to play Region 2 (United Kingdom) DVDs. We love British comedy shows, such as Mrs.Brown, One Foot in the Grave, Are You Being Served, etc.! This player worked like a charm. It made it possible to watch our favorite Brit show when we wanted to. It's definitely worth the money!!!

Great upscaling
This DVD player flawlessly plays DVDs from US, Japan, & Germany. I can’t speak to other areas cuz those are the discs I have. My husband is continually impressed by the upscaling. Standard definition DVDs look good on a 40” HD TV. We’ve had no issues. This really is a plug & play device. It even properly plays audio from discs that my computer struggles with (the computer plays the voice track super quiet, but from the same disc this player acts like everything’s normal). My only complaint is the complexity of the remote makes me look at the buttons I’m pressing cuz there are so many buttons, but that’s not worth docking any stars over. I’ll get used to the location of the buttons I use frequently.

Would say great, but intermittent blackouts
Update:I added back a star since using a higher quality HDMI cable did the trick and so far so good, no more image blackouts or squeaking! And the supplied cable worked just fine to connect one of my monitors to my work laptop. Conclusion: if you have a newer Samsung Smart TV, this dvd player will work BUT 1) do yourself a favor and get an Amazon Essentials HDMI cable and use the included cable to connect peripherals to a computer, not to your tv: 2) the dvd player isn’t recognized immediately by the tv and you must use the supplied remote, not the tv remote, with the dvd player. But not too long after you connect the hdmi cable, if you put a dvd in the player it will automatically start up. I am now very happy with this little player! Would be a 5 star review had the player shipped with a higher quality hdmi cable!Original Review (3 stars):Pros: I bought this player to play my mostly foreign dvds, replacing a $16 player from grad school that worked great until the tray stopped opening. So far it is playing my beloved Australian tv series (Region 4) that was recently discontinued on Netflix. Image is crisp using the HDMI-HDMI connection. After this I will try my region 2 discs. Although audio is annoyingly loud initially, the remote works well and the sound is actually better than when I watch tv through the computer connected to my Samsung smart tv, so that is great.Cons: Starting on evening 3 of watching my Region 4 series, every so often the image on the screen will briefly turn totally black and occasionally I hear a squeak from the dvd player. TV is a Smart Samsung LCD new as of a few months ago when my kitten knocked over and broke my last TV). I inspected the disc that first experienced the issue and cleaned it with a cloth, although there was no dust or smudges on it. All seems fine with the tray, but my next step is to try a dvd lens cleaning disc. So far the same thing has happened with four different discs. I also plugged the provided HDMI cable into a different HDMI port on my tv, but the issue persists. I might try using a different HDMI cable to see if that works and I haven’t tried the supplied RCA cables with the RCA-HDMI converter I used on my old dvd player, but I can’t imagine that would give the same quality as a HDMI-HDMI connection. The blackouts are fairly infrequent, although very annoying and by evening 4 they happened at least a dozen times. My only other complaint is that the player does make noise when playing, but nothing I can’t live with. I only hope this player lasts 15+ years like my last one half the price did. And I hope that trying a different HDMI cable and/or playing a cleaning disc will solve or at least minimized the black screen/squeaking issue.

Item as described. Easy to install. Fast shipping. Would definitely buy again.
Awesome DVD player. I can watch my favorite DVD from England. This DVD player is zone free. This allows you to watch dvds that are made for different parts of the world. The price was very reasonable. Fast shipping also.

Love this DVD and CD player
I ordered because of the price, and was pleasantly surprised at what little space it takes up. But I love how easy it is to use and would definitely purchase a second one for another room.

It works well
It works perfect on my old DVDs. Only thing I had to do was adjust the TV settings. Everything was in the letterbox. I like the full screen when I watch the old black and white movies the hook up was 123 so far it’s working great just got it a week or two ago now

Great region free player
I had a much more expensive region free player, but quit playing non region 1 dvd’s because the chip got corrupted. I bought this one, and so far so good. I bought a second one for a different room. Definitely recommend.

Is easy to setup and use, DVD Cord is a bit shorter than usual, used tv remote to increase volume
The DVD Player arrived on time and it was packaged well. It is compact and therefore saves a lot of space. It came with a remote, AAA Batteries for the DVD Remote, despite them not being mentioned as being included in the box in the item's details section. It came with a HDMI Cable, an RCA Cable and a User Manual. The DVD Cord is a bit shorter than usual, the HDMI Cable length is adequate. The DVD Player was easy to setup and is easy to use. You just plug in the power cord, plug one end of the HDMI Cable to the HDMI port in the back of the DVD Player and the other end of the HDMI Cable to the HDMI 2 port in the back of your TV if HDMI 1 port is already taken, then turn on the DVD Player, and switch the source or input by pressing the source or input button on your TV Remote and selecting HDMI 2 or whatever port you chose to put the HDMI Cable in. The Megatek logo will appear and then you use the remote to click the settings button and go to TV System to make sure that it says NTSC, which appeared to be already selected, to get out of settings just press the settings button again. The volume when using the DVD Remote is limited, use your TV remote to increase it. To switch back to HDMI 1 just use your TV Remote and press the source or input button again and then select HDMI 1. The picture quality seems to be fine and the buttons on the remote seem to work well. The DVD Player appears to be corresponding well with the remote. Only time will tell if the DVD Player holds up six months, a year or more from now.
