Fits a “nominal” 6x6 post
I’m a retired home builder with lots of hands on carpentry experience. After 22 years I needed a replacement for one of my post caps which was beginning to rot. These are the exact same ones, made of very high quality cedar, tight mitered corners and perfectly square. I add a semi mushroom shaped cedar ball to finish off the top but these are also fine If you just want a flat cap. However Deckorators still uses “contractor speak” in describing it as a 6” x 6” cap. Many folks understand that this is a nominal measurement and actually describes a cap for a 5 1/2” square post. So a “6x6” pressure treated post will actually measure 5 1/2 x 5 1/2”. Same thing as a 2x4 is actually 1 1/2” x 3 1/2” etc. or what is referred to as the dressed measurement. So MEASURE YOUR POST FIRST.The flat part on top is 5 1/4” square and the opening for the post is actually 5 5/8” square x 1 3/8” deep. Also, if you intend to paint them with a latex water base paint, be sure to prime first with an OIL based primer like Kills which will accept a latex top coat because the tannins in cedar may bleed through the water based latex. All in all, a great product sold by the higher end supply houses.

Beautiful Design and Well-Made
Well, I haven't installed them yet. That's why I haven't responded to your request for a review. These are very well-made post caps, and I will install them after we push the posts down to where they should be located in the ground. It seems that winter has a way of freezing up posts. So as soon as we finish that job, we'll attach the caps with small screws so they can be easily removed if needed. They will be white when we attach them which will match our 2000-foot fence. I'll even include a photo.

Perfect fit.
I ordered two 6 x 6 post caps to replace the ones which were damaged when several sections of my fence fell during a severe rain storm. These are well made and match the other post caps. Flex glue adhesive applied to the post and cap holds it in place. Because of the neutral color a good wood stain will probably make them look fantastic.

Mixed Bag. One was perfect, no knots or blemishes, but the other one looked like a "second".
I purchased two of these caps for some new posts added to a previously installed cedar fence.I admit I winced a little when ordering because the price was top-dollar, but I received my two caps pretty quickly.Once they arrived I noted that the build quality of the caps was excellent. I proceeded to apply some cedar stain to them and found that the first cap was beautiful, clear cedar with no knots or blemishes, but the second one had some knots in the top surface and one of the sides had been repaired with wood filler. I guess you could say that the second one literally looked like it was a "second".Once stained though, the two caps looked nearly identical and I was able to hide the part with the wood filler by positioning it toward the house siding.Having said all that , I think if you asked 100 people what they thought of the caps after installation, I doubt if anyone would notice anything wrong, especially since the cap is at the top of a 10' post, so 4 stars seemed fair.Oh, and in case you are wondering, the instructions say to glue them on with construction adhesive, but I imagine most pro-fence installers just put a nail through each side and into the post.

Quality
Bought two of these in July of 2024 and both warped after being outside a couple of months. We took them apart and put back together with screws hoping this would take care of the problem but that didn't hold. I would not recommend these. We bought 2 aluminum brown caps and hope they will work.

Very impressed!
These wooden post caps are very well made. They demonstrate high quality workmanship and are about the same price as vinyl ones but with a much moresubstantial, natural look and feel. I am extremely satisfied and plan to replace all my vinyl post caps with these wooden ones. Fast and reliable shipping as well. A WIN -WIN!

Used in winter when I bring in & store the solar ones.
I bought 2 of these to put on my front porch for the winter months. I have some nice solar caps for summer but I don’t like to leave them out all winter because I want them to last. When these wooden ones arrived, I stained them to match my deck. I then put heavy duty adhesive backed velcro pieces; one inside the wooden cap and the other side on the top of the post. As part of my fall clean-up, I unscrewed my solar caps to store away and put these wooden ones in their place. It has worked great so far.
