Great lock – tough to beat. This is Yale’s original Platinum lock cylinder and it’s better than the new version. Get one while you still can! This 50/50 size euro cylinder is as good as it gets for home security.What’s special about this original Yale Platinum is the interlocking cam: it’s designed so that BOTH SIDES must be snapped for the cam to release. No burglar would be in a position to snap both sides! Also, the cam design makes this lock cylinder secure against several methods of ‘destructive entry’ – not just lock snapping but also plug extraction. In short, this is a seriously tough lock cylinder.The newer Yale Platinum doesn’t have this cam design, perhaps to save money. The new version is also more hassle to fit, because of the ‘kick deflector’ that gets in the way.PROS• Achieves the maximum 3-star security rating in the British Standard Institute TS007 test.• Specially designed ‘cam’ not only protects against lock snapping, but also protects against plug extraction.• Very reliable – mine has lasted years without jamming once.• Well manufactured with high tolerances (unlike some other Yale lock cylinders).CONS• No longer made by Yale (so buy one while you can).• No protection against key copying without your knowledge (Mul-T-Lock’s new  Breaksecure 3DS  has better key security but costs more).• Can't be opened if a key's left in the other side (unlike the Abus E90 cylinder, which has a safety clutch that allows keys to be used in both sides at the same time).NB: Like all locks, it needs a drop of  PS88 lock lube  to avoid jamming. (Avoid WD40 in locks!)
