Great price, very small, and runs as it should
Extremely cheap and does the job just as well as other 8 port unmanaged gigabit switches. Also, it's VERY small. Others have mentioned that it runs a little hot, but I personally have not experienced that with this switch. All in all 5 stars for a product that works as it should.

ASIX AX88179 chipset seems to have problems with Windows 8.1
Have windows 8.1 and the driver fails - get "The USB device returned an invalid USB BOS descriptor".Tried the newer driver from the manufacturer www.hiroinc.com site - did not help. Noticed that a similar product from Amazon has the same problem - according to user reviews - the Diamond Media USB to Ethernet adapter. Both have the same chipset. Will change my review if and when the issue is resolved and the device works for Windows 8.1

Great Small Gigabit Switch Beware of Premature Failure and Problems Dealing with Customer Service
Small size perfect for home lan network enclosures. Works well on CAT5E. I have bought three now and all work great.I am updating my review as I have suffered a massive failure on one of the switches. Used a temporary power supply with the same specifications but the unit did not respond. I contacted the Hiro Customer Support because the unit was under warranty. It failed after 5 months under a 1 year warranty. I contacted Hiro and found that customer service support is through an operator who claims that customer service will call you back. After three attempts to contact customer service, the operator arranged for a prompt return call from customer service. After discussing my troubleshooting with customer service, a replacement unit was shipped. I am lowering my previous 5 star review because of the premature failure and difficulty dealing with customer service.

USB cord was a little short because I use it ...
USB cord was a little short because I use it with my Surface Pro 3 so it hangs off a bit but otherwise works well. Didn't have any trouble with windows 8.1 drivers or anything.

Works great with Macbook Air, included power adapter not always needed
The description was not clear, but this does come with a power adapter. I did not need it when using just the Ethernet connection and one USB port for a keyboard, but it's possible you may have to plug it in if you have USB devices with higher power requirements. No driver was needed on the new Macbook Air. All in all, a pretty cool way to get both a wired connection (needed for those weird hotels that just have wired Ethernet, and useful all the time) and expand the number of USB slots you have.

so far so good..
so far so good...only been hooked up since yesterday but it definitely worked...plugged it into an Acer Aspire netbook with Windows 10 (which has a dead ethernet jack) and it worked right away...Windows 10 recognized it immediately and installed it without needing the installation CD that came with it...both the ethernet and 3 usb ports work fine, at the same time
