The Gingerbread Family: A Scratch-and-Sniff Book

Very colorful...though hard to smell the scents! My granddaughter loves the pictures and wants me to read it over and over!

awwwww I just love this little book and so does my daughter. She is 18 months old and loves scratch and sniff books. They must not be making them anymore because I could only find 3 "new" books still in print (used books are hit or miss with the smelly stickers still smelling good.) The story rhymes, the pictures are cute, and the stickers actually smell like what they are supposed to. My only quibble is that the stickers are small and they blend in so well with the illustrations that my daughter can't recognize them- I have to scratch them for her and help her smell the right area. Otherwise its a perfect book for your little one.

Very cute small book. Colors are so bright and beautiful illustrations. The only problem is that some of the pages don't smell. But the gingerbread house and lemon lollipop are very strong and smell delicious! The gum drops had no scent which was disappointing and the cake had a faint smell. Other than that we loved the book. Great price and a must have. We read a Christmas book everyday in December until Christmas day it's our tradition and we love adding this book for our collection.Only reason I gave it 4 stars is because the book only has a few scents and some don't smell at all. Wish we could of smelled the gum drops and marshmallows.

I bought this book for my 3yo son. He has been learning about gingerbread men in preschool this year and his teacher has this book. He is part of a special ed program to help bring his speech up to age level. This book was a great way to help get him speaking.The book is small enough for my 3yo to hold by himself. The pages are all of a thick cardboard construction with a glossy finish. The pictures are bright & engaging. The story is easy to follow and he has begun to memorize parts of it to "read" along with me. I also enjoyed that each page had a small sensory-friendly spot that encouraged him to touch the picture (working on single-finger isolation and fine motor skills).I would recommend this book to any parent looking for a good quality book for their home library. It is holding up well to how my kids handle books. (They are great little product testers with their rough & tumble approach to life!)

This is a cute board book, but the main feature (scratch & sniff) leaves a bit to be desired. If it had been possible, I would have given it 3.5 stars.There are six pages with the following scents: gingerbread, gumdrop, chocolate, lemon, peppermint, and marshmallow. The smell circles are about the size of a quarter, which seems a little small, and they're only faintly outlined, making it hard for babies/toddlers to find the scent. And while the gumdrop and lemon are great, the chocolate and marshmallow don't have a very realistic smell, and I can hardly smell the peppermint.I also would have liked there to be a least two scents per scene. For example, on the "Dad is fishing on Blueberry Juice Lake, while Mom is baking a chocolate angel food cake", the only scent is chocolate. This would have been a perfect opportunity to do both blueberry on the left page and chocolate on the right page.Overall, this is a cute story, but it would be better with better scents - larger, stronger, and more frequent.

If you're looking for a scratch and sniff book like I was, don't buy this one. I scratched and sniffed, but there was no detectable smell to this book. I purchased a different scratch and sniff book called The Sweet Smell of Christmas at the same time as this one and THAT one DOES smell.

After my son fell in love with his first scratch and sniff book, I decided to purchase some more... Sadly enough, there are very few of these types of books available. I didn't want to buy this one because I thought it would be Christmassy, but it really is not. It is cute and sweet and has six smells that seem to be still going strong. I am sure they will eventually wear out with overuse but it is fine for the price and the story reminds me of candy land!

My son absolutely loves this book. It smells beautiful. One of his new favourite scratch and sniff books.

Lovely little book and the scratch and sniff parts really work well. Great for getting the senses working and helping my son to use his sense of smell. It has great colourful illustrations and a nice little story to it. It seems well made of sturdy cardboard and it will take a fair bit of abuse. My son loves it and we read it again and again. Recommended.

I was never able to findscratch & sniff books with here and I first found them in Edinborough, back in the ninetees. Now I bought them for my grandchildren. Great!

L' idea della gingerbread family e tutta l' ambientazione fatta di caramelle e dolciumi e' originale ma non trovo molto contenuto nel libro, non lascia il segno.Gli odori si avvertono appena togliendo le linguette ma svaniscono presto.Non credo che lo ricomprerei tornando indietro.
