set it up easily enough. Started to use it
received machine, set it up easily enough. Started to use it, tried to set up program to use but it would pause after 30 seconds and the resistance would go down to 0. Tried every way to program so it would not do this but unable to do it. Called customer service and they tried to help me. They were unable to fix the problem, had me take it apart and try to fix the speed sensor. Boy was that a pain. Still wouldn't work so they sent me a new console. Put that on my self and still no luck. Sent the machine back to amazon, lots of fun getting it back into box! I was stupid enough to order a second machine and guess what!!! the exact same problem, no i don't want to push start every 30 seconds while i am rowing. Called customer service again and was just told that they couldn't do anything and just send it back...again. So here I go putting this piece of crap back into that box!

With the resistance set in the upper levels you can get a good work out
Very compact machine will fit an apartment or small space. Also very quiet can watch tv while the machine is in use. With the resistance set in the upper levels you can get a good work out. The only weak aspects are the electronics. The menu is hard to read also you will need to purchase a seperate heart rate monitor for this is the best way to stay within target fitness range. The info displayed is some what irrelivant. The time and program is all that really matters on a rower distance and strokes aren't important. If the heart monitor was built in to the machine it would be almost perfect.

they were great, giving me a challenging workout
I purchased two of these rowers on 12/29/14 and they were delivered shortly after New Years. Within the past two weeks both rowers experienced a mechanical issue. During the backstroke, the spring that retracts the handle to the flywheel broke. Both rowers have less than 2 months of usage, and they've only been used 3-4 days per week for interval training. Thankfully they're under warranty, and the XTERRA customer service has been very accommodating. When the rowers were working, they were great, giving me a challenging workout. Replacement flywheels and springs are being delivered, so hopefully these are more durable.

The Stamina InMotion is a good inexpensive rower that I will pass on to someone ...
I purchased the Stamina InMotion Rower for $89.98 last year to see if I would actually use a rower. I knew if I did use this rower regularly I'd do well to invest in a more expensive rower. The Stamina InMotion is a good inexpensive rower that I will pass on to someone else. The Xterra ERG400 is a really nice rower! So quiet and such smooth motion. There is some assembly required. As I said in my Stamina InMotion review I am all thumbs so I was pleased that I was able to assemble it on my own. Assembling the Xterra probably took me a little bit longer but I was able to do it without becoming exasperated. The console is difficult to read unless you're right on top of it but still nice. A problem I had with the Stamina was that it was so low to the ground. Not a problem for the physically fit maybe, but for a 66 year old, overweight woman with somewhat bad knees, getting on and off wasn't easy or pretty! I looked for rowers that road higher off the ground anthis Xterra was the only one within my price range that I could find. I wasn't disappointed! Easy for me to get on and off because of the height . Easy to fold and move out of the way. Not sure why Amazon's tracking was so far off however. I ordered on March 17 and it arrived on the 24th. Two days earlier than anticipated. Not complaining but as I write this (25th) my tracking still says, carrier unassigned, delivery date March 27th. Helloooooooo, it has been sitting in my living room since yesterday morning!!!!! Have to say, this is very unusual for Amazon. I do love you Amazon but I was lucky I got home shortly after FedEx dropped it at my front door.Experienced one problem that I thought I wouldn't be able to resolve. The locking pin goes in perfectly when the rower is in the folded/storage position. When the rower was in the down position, I wasn't able to insert the locking pin. The locking pin has to be in place in both positions for safety. I was perplexed until I realized the rower rests on the small wheels at the bottom. (wheels that make moving the rower painless) The problem was resolved when I lightly pushed on the front, which elevated the front off the small wheels. The locking pin went in smoothly. This did make me think. What if I had a problem that I couldn't resolve. From now on, when I purchase a large item online, I will check to see if there are service centers in my area. It would be impossible for me to ship this item back for repair or refund.

Easy to assemble, hard to get a decent workout.
Relatively easy to put together and use, but the resistance is very low even when it is cranked to the max. It's hard to get a decent workout out of it.

Disappointed
Broke when I only had it a year and used it very little. The Xterra company was helpful and sent me a replacement part that broke but then it never worked right again even with the new part. I contacted them and they made it right. Thank God it was still under the year warranty! Very disappointed that it didn't end up being better made.

Not disappointed!
Mine arrived on Friday (1 week from order, on Prime) and it took about an hour all-in to put together and set up. Tools and step-by-step instructions are included. It was a pain to get out of the packaging, though.I've only used high-end rowers in the past at the gym so I don't have much to compare this with.I'd agree that the stroke length could do with being another 6". I am 6'2 and I hit the end stops on the row. But, I have gotten used to it.The resistance levels are good and the variety of programs more than enough. Screen is clear and visible while working out. This folds easily and the seat beam locks in the upright position, making it secure and easy move around and store when not in use.Regards comparing it to a Concept 2, I considered this. Fact is, this is less than half the price. I don't think I'd ever justify spending around $1000 for a rower. If you're in the market for a well-built machine at a reasonable price, I'd say this fits the bill.

Great Buy
Easy to use, folds up nicely, and will gone you a great workout.UPDATE: After having the product for two months, the flywheel broke. We will see how the rower works if/when the new flywheel is received.

Very disapointed...
Dont buy !!! First it arrived broken in the box !! The foot pedal are horrible if you go a bit intense for your workout the feet fall off!! And finally the blue rubber gasket where the handle and strap come out fall off when you push your workout too hard!! Hey its a workout machine !!!

good overall
quality is good, its confortable, only drawback that justifies the 3 stars is that you have to always put the maximum resistance otherwise is way to easy, so it does not give a large overall range of usable resistance

Good product overall. Just prepare to be creative with the foot attachment.
Like the product overall. The only thing I totally dislike is the velcro that secures the foot to the pedal. It’s way too up and nothing to secure your foot to the bottom of the pedal therefore dislodging your foot during exercise. Prepare to do some DIY remedy like securing your foot with a flat bungee cord or something.
