Steve Chappell hated it! Sorry Steve...
My timber framing teacher absolutely hated this tool. His name is Steve Chappell. When he saw me using it he yelled at me..."No no no! Do yourself a favor and throw that in the garbage!"He then tried to sell me one of his more expensive mallets that he has floating all around his shop. His mallets are cumbersome, overly heavy, and in my opinion not well balanced at all. On top of that at least 4 of them ended up broken by the time our class was over. Once they fall the handles break out on them.My Wood Is Good mallet on the other hand survived many falls. Despite him yelling at me for using it I kept going back to it. I'm sorry Steve but this mallet is just far superior. You can hate on it however you want, I know you've been using yours for 40+ years, but this mallet checks all the boxes.I'm not a professional timber framer, but I beat the piss out of this mallet and what I love is the balance. Using it all day is easy, and my hand/arm never felt tired at all. The handle is the perfect size, and it makes chisel work a dream. If you need a mallet like this for any reason I definitely recommend it. The polyurethane looks just as good as the day I bought it, and I can't see myself ever needing to replace this mallet. This will last me the rest of my life.I would love to see a heavier version in the future if they can get the balance as good as this.

The Best Mallet Hands Down
The 30 ounce Wood is Good mallet is a must for larger chisels. The balance, ergonomics, materials and craftsmanship all scream a tool that is made to use and last. It is so encouraging to see companies like Wood is Good that produce this level of tool here in the USA. This mallet may cost slightly more upfront but pays dividends in how well it preforms and lasts compared to the rest.I use the 30 ounce primarily with 2", 2.5" and large corner chisels for timber framing projects. I find it the perfect balance of weight and force for these size chisels.

Sturdy, strong, and balanced
I am a novice wood worker/timber framer at best. I have one big project under my belt (our timber framed SIPs home) and used this mallet just about everyday for a year straight. It looks almost as good as good as new and has hd up to countless abuses. The mallet is very sturdy in my hand and I love the balance of it. Initially I thought nearly $50 for a mallet was insane, but its quality and usefulness have already more than made up for the cost. Strange to say, but it is a quality tool and there is just something nice about the feel of it in my hand!

Simplicity, Form, and Function
My review is not original... If you do a regular web search for "wood is good review", you'll find a number of professional, well respected, and venerated authorities that unanimously agree. I cannot possibly add to the glowing respect and support for this company and it's mallets. I've seen this product line touted for it being the solution for elbow problems, a fantastic protection for expensive or brittle tool handles, and the best idea for an apartment woodworker wanting to be respectful and chop morises in the quietest manner. The list goes on and on. All of the mallets have a lifetime guarantee and a performance record that is worth every penny of the investment. I in no way benefit from the praise I've written here. This simple tool is so amazing it necessitates the little time it took to write this.

Well-made
Sturdy and nicely balanced. I'm using this as a replacement for my 45 year old lignum vitae mallet that broke at the neck. This mallet works well for removing larger amounts of wood, in my case cherry. It's too early to evaluate the mallets durability, but from what others wrote, this is a robust tool. The handle is comfortable and smoothly finished.

Best mallet on amazon
Had a hard time finding a 24oz + mallet. This is 30oz and it absolutely delivers. It's just soft enough to grab the whole head of your tool if you hitting HARD (i mean embossing leather on an anvil hard), but seems to be unscathed so far. I can see some small imprints where my tool caught it at a bad angle, but they look superficial and will probably just fade away. It's all once piece. I think the urethan is poured right onto it. It feels like it will last a lifetime or two. My other polyurethane mallet can't say the same.

Sturdy and comfortable handle
I contemplated buying this hammer for a long time, finally decided to reward my wood shop and build efforts by purchasing one.I definitely do not regret getting one as it helps with small and large scale furniture builds that require delicately stern motivation to get into position. Aka a knock with the mallet.I appreciate the quietness when doing so and do not miss vibrations that would travel through an all wood mallet.Getting my value out of this handy, low maintenance rubber mallet.

AMAZING mallet
As a leatherworker I am always on the hunt for better tools. This 30 oz bad boy is one of my new favorite tools on my bench. The handle, let’s start there, perfect grip and so silky smooth it’s almost unbelievable. The poly head, didn’t take one mark from my pricking irons last night. My old worn out poly mallet did well, but it’s to lite, having to repeatedly beat my other tools with it, wood is good 30oz, 2 light strikes and I was able to move on. Lastly, the weight of this beautiful beast of a mallet, there is plenty weight transfer available with this monster. I am so unbelievably happy with this mallet and that it’s made right here in the USA. Under 50$ and the best money I’ve spent for my tools to date. Thank you wood is good for an amazing productEdit, years later: still my most favorite tool on my bench. The poly head is still blemish free. If I ever have to buy a replacement be assured it will be this mallet.
