OUTSTANDING!
OUTSTANDING!I have been recording in my own studios, both home and commercial, as well as other studios in the industry for exactly 30 years this year, and I STILL love this book, and learned from it! I even bought a SECOND copy of the book so I could have them in multiple locations. I am all about mobility of my library now, and that is why I use Kindle - more precisely, most often my Kindle app for iPhone, so thousands of books go EVERYWHERE with me, so my only complaint is that this book is not available on Kindle. That would be a HUGE plus. I still demand of myself that EVERY book I have on Kindle, I MUST also have in physical form on my library bookshelf. JUST NEED TO GET THIS ONE ON KINDLE NOW! :)

Mixing has always been a mystery to me. I always wondered " What am I aiming for". This book was recommended by TAXI and it put in simple step by step everyday language, what to do and in what order. There are so many different preferences for music production and this manual showed how to get the best results with what you already have.Highly recommendedJoy

Although I would classify this book for the beginner or those new to mixing, I wish I had read it 30 years ago when I started mixing instead of trying to teach myself.Fett is a good guy and this is a good book for mixing strategies. Easy reading and easy to understand.

Very nice, very useful
Very nice, very useful. Concise and written very well. Possibly the most useful book I have read in a long time... probably could sell this book for more

A nice man but have your expectations set
I get the feeling that a lot of these reviews are from people who met Fett at a conference and are taken by his truly good nature and willingness to share his experiences in conversation. He's a good guy. No doubt about it. And they want to support his publishing effort. But that's him.We need to focus on the book, because people looking to learn about mixing and don't have endless money to spend on books need to know that whatever book they buy will be useful and offer good value. If you want my money for a book you've written, it needs to be valuable. The problem I see with this book is it just doesn't just know who its audience is. Much is directed to newbies, reinforcing extremely fundamental matters such as how to organize, backup and deliver your work for your clients. But honestly, if you are at the level where you have clients, this is already information you likely know by now. Certainly, if at that level, you know what panning and EQ are if you have clients. So is that something you need to describe here? And if you ARE in fact trying to appeal to newbies, sure, I get the importance of a folder structure, but do you really need to make that 20% of your book? Do you really need screenshots of a folder structure to eat up even more of the page count? In fairness, this book is called a "roadmap" to mixing. I think a better title would have been "Fett's 7-Phase Mixing Workflow". That would better give you an indication of the contents. It describes his process at a higher - almost flowchart - level and in that regard, it delivers, but understand that it is totally lacking in detail. Discussions of EQ, panning, spatial effects and compression are very limited in their depth. In short, for me, this book had a lack of educational content given the price. This seems more like a beefy magazine article than a book, which would be acceptable if it was jammed with insights. However, even at a pretty thin 123 pages, that includes about 10 blank pages for "notes". So it's actually 113 pages and of that you can safely estimate that 30% is made up of screenshots from his own Cubase-based system, and of those perhaps 50% are, at best, mildly informative. The other half are highly redundant. (Do I really need two pictures of the same EQ, except in one a parameter number has changed? More of a "spot the difference" game than an informative image.Of the remaining, let's say 65 pages of written content, about 20% is about folder structure, as well as many repetitive reminders to save and backup your work frequently, as well as take a break to preserve your objectivity and hearing. etc. It's valuable to see a professional's workflow and for that, it is useful. I did gain one EQ insight which I think will be helpful. But it is very, very light on technical explanations, and I didn't learn anything truly insightful about the more "sonic" aspects of mixing from this book.I think as a $15 book or even a kindle purchase for around the same amount (maybe a tad less), I would have been fine with it. Any knowledge, after all, is good knowledge, and I am of course interested in the workflow of a highly regarded professional. But if the economics of printing a book make it necessary to charge as much as is being asked, then I think this book needs to be revised and improved with some hard content, and some more detailed insights of significantly greater use. For example, when discussing frequency conflicts, the book mentions that there are charts available that show typical ranges of frequencies covered by instruments which can help show overlaps. He mentions there is a chart but doesn't include a version of it. I mean, c',mon! Yes, I can look it up but I have your book in my hand. The lack of including that incredibly important reference information just seemed plain lazy to me. Similarly, a simple guideline to where boxiness, boom, mud, etc, live is essential to any discussion about mixing. It certainly is worthy of at least a page or two, if only as a more useful appendix than 10 blank pages for "notes".I liked Fett. He's a genuinely good guy. But if I am buying one book on mixing, I want one that has at least a little more on how to make your mix sound better; something that would nicely complement the workflow content. If the latter is specifically what you want to know, then yes, this book may be of use to you.

Covers the basics well but was looking for some more advanced technique. It's as good as any other mixing book on the market and I've owned most of them. If you are looking for a general guide to get you started I would recommend this one.
