"Buggy" and very slow to use
Sadly, I was very disappointed with the Nova Pro, especially after having watched so many very favourable and appreciative reviews. Perhaps I was sent a "faulty" item? I found it painfully slow to use. Sometimes I had to keep tapping, increasingly strongly, the screen to get any response. Ghosting of previous pages was a major problem, as well as having the page flash on every refresh on its page turn. Switching into A2 mode solved the page refresh/flash problem but left unacceptable ghosting. Not using the A2 mode still left a little ghosting (but probably liveable with) but meant that every page turn resulted in the new page "flashing" as it refreshed itself. Selecting the so-called "Regal" page refresh mode in the "optimisation" of the relevant app (Scribd or Kindle) didn't make things any better.Frankly, the e-ink reading experience wasn't a patch on using my 2018 Kindle Paperwhite (and especially my Kindle Oasis 2). With the Kindles there is no ghosting or "page flashing" and the page on the screen looks so much cleaner when compared to the Nova Pro page.On the plus side, the Nova Pro looks a premium quality device, is very light and has an excellent screen size (I wish there was a Kindle with a 7.8" screen - that would make the Oasis even better and not be so much of a problem for it since its 7" screen size means it is already not as "portable" as the other Kindles). Note taking on the Nova Pro with the Wacom pencil was great too.At the end of the day, the Nova Pro offers a very wide range of Android capabilities but, in my experience, is seriously let down by the e-reader experience, which was, for me, my primary reason for buying the device. I shall be returning it, I am afraid.

Some good features, but quite slow and too expensive
This is an e-ink reader which is not tied down to a particular book shop. Its screen is larger than most basic ereaders which makes it suitable for pdf documents, and its battery life is a good deal better than tablets or smart phones (unless the backlight or internet connection are permanently on). No separate program is needed to upload books from a pc (but it works well with Calibre). The reader has a broad range of functions and the pre-installed reading app works ok with epub and pdf files, allowing highlighting, annotation and export of notes. A pen can be used to scribble notes on documents. The backlight is useful for dark environments or pdf files scanned from grey/yellow paper.GooglePlay is pre-installed, but many Android apps aren’t really suitable for an e-ink screen. The Nova pen doesn’t seem to work in any of these apps. So while this looked like an attractive feature on paper, it’s not very useful in practice. There are a number of problems with this device, especially in view of its price:Identifying and using the different functions of this ereader is not easy. While some features are fairly obvious for anyone who has used similar devices, others aren’t, and neither are many of the symbols used in the interface. The ereader comes with a very brief quick start guide which covers only a few essentials. The more detailed manual is not easy to find (not on the company’s website, nor pre-installed on the device) and must be downloaded through a link in the ereader menu. The manual itself often lacks clarity - it’s clearly been translated into English, and quite badly at times. As a result, it takes quite a bit of time to figure out how to do more than the most basic things. (A number of youtube review videos are useful here.)The screen is not as responsive as one would expect. Highlighting text can be quite fiddly, and even page-turning often requires several attempts.Processing power seems limited which causes problems with large pdf files which load slowly and often don’t respond to annotations or page turning.Overall, not a bad device, but not really good enough to merit a price of £278. Similar Kindle and Kobo readers are cheaper and even waterproof.

Nice ereader with some minor niggles
Item arrived promptly and had almost full charge, which was nice.PROS:Feels very premium and well made.Nice backlight tint mixing controls.Refresh is pretty good once you switch on A2 mode. You can install any android app on it, RSS readers work well.Web browsing works ok given the nature of the screen, again A2 mode is essential for smooth scrolling.CONS:Weak WiFi range, not a patch on my phone.WiFi automatically switches off after inactivity but won't auto switch back on, you have to do it manually.Getting the play store to work is a faff due to the device not being Google certified.Screen is everso slightly blurry. Can't work out how to change size of system font, which is a pain.No manual included.Battery life is not in the same ballpark as a kindle, it will last a few days but not weeks. All in all it is fine for my use case but it could do with a few firmware tweaks.EDIT: after 2 years of very light use it's dead. It won't charge and screen won't come on. I can't recommend this device anymore as the entire device became sluggish and crashy and wifi kept disconnecting. 2 stars because it did work ok-ish for a while.
