Don’t get if you’re not ready for special need pet
This product is great but my experience wasn’t as expected. First, we didn’t pick up the package on time to receive caterpillars but we received chrysalises already, which was disappointing to the kids. I was worried because the box wasn’t necessarily handled carefully and the caterpillars were forced to cocoon in those conditions. Next, when the chrysalises got out of the cocoons the butterfly garden turn into a crime scene. There was liquid which looked exactly like blood everywhere! My kids were praying for those butterflies to heal so hard. lol. It would be nice to know that the chrysalis changes color to darker when it’s closer to emerge. I almost throw those mf’s away thinking they’re dead. The fact, that they don’t all emerge on a same or close by day was also little confusing. Anyway, they all emerged to my complete surprise. One died right after and my kids insisted on a proper burial so here I was digging under our tree in a backyard with a toy sand shovel signing “Rest in peace Poopfly.” They obviously had to name him, da. The releasing of the rest was naturally followed by bunch of meltdowns when they didn’t come back after being called by their names. Just when I thought I was done with this project from hell one of the butterflies was little damaged. He was born with one side of wings smaller and he only has one antenna. He couldn’t fly. Needless to say my kids would have never let him die of hunger there, so we obviously had to put him back into his garden. Long story short it has been 2 months since we have to not only keep “Steve” but we also need to hand feed him twice a day, because he can’t really find his food and keeps falling on one side. He needs variety of fresh fruits every day and obviously sugar water hydration. We carry him right next to his tiny bowl to make sure he can get fed. He can’t climb the bowl but we use syringe to spill some sugar water on edges he can reach with his crooked proboscis (yes I asked chatGPT what the word is) We need to clean his butterfly garden from old fruit and juice etc so ants don’t get into it. We also change his scenery daily so he doesn’t get bored. Steve is the most pampered crippled butterfly ever. At this point I’m more more invested than my kids to find out how long can he live. I have a feeling he will outlive us all and will be passed down through generations.

Fun and Educational
Such a great gift idea for young kids! The actual company where you redeem your voucher is very responsive and amazing to work with. When I received one of the cups, a caterpillar had perished. I reached out to the company directly and they quickly replaced the caterpillar and shipped me a new cup.Being able to watch the lifecycle of a butterfly was so much fun and educational for the kids! I would definitely recommend as a home project or for a classroom.

Great gift
My daughter loved to see these caterpillars grow. This was a great way to introduce her into the insect world so that she wasn't afraid of every tiny creature outside our house. She loved feeding them and was sad to say goodbye once they got big enough. She was excited to see one in our garden though. One note is if this is a gift you do need to order the caterpillars separate and it does take a week or so before they arrive so plan appropriately

Misleading…
Maybe this was my fault for not reading the fine print but I did not receive the cup of caterpillars with this kit. You get a voucher and then still have to pay $9 for shipping. The only reason I took off a star is because I had to order the cup of caterpillars separately and wait an additional week to receive my package.Despite that, my caterpillars are thriving and the kit comes with everything that you need. This is a very fun project to do with kids and they learn a lot . I like the little log it comes with to track everything.
