Reading other disgruntled views saying it didnt cool their room......it`s not meant to. It cools the space around you and it really does. It`s only a small, light box but it`s wonderful to sit near it and feel so much more comfortable. The fan makes a noise, cos fans do, but it`s not extreme and I could sleep with this on with no problem. It makes the extremely hot weather more bearable and is worth every penny. I`m so pleased I took the advice of a guy at work who recommended it.For those wanting a room chiller, get your hands in your pockets and buy a proper aircon unit. You cant expect champagne with beer money with this.As far as I`m concerned, it does what it`s supposed to and it`s amazing.

Just purchased this after seeing it on TV and still sweltering next to a normal fan. What the hell I thought even a little bit of a relief is better than what I have at the moment. Looked at JML and it is the same price but you have to pay postage, so onto amazon and it arrived an hour ago. Small unit, not the sturdiest of construction, but what it is, is a fan with a filter in front of it, which is removed, made wet or better still put wet in the freezer, the lid lifted and filled with cold water and the fan blows over the cold wet filter and the water keeps the filter wet. The result cold air. This will not cool down a room, it is a personal cooler unit. I am currently sitting in a chair, with it 2 feet from me, it is 1400hr in 29c and the hairs are up on my arm from the cold air. I can feel it on my legs and I feel totally chilled and comfortable. It is a great relief. Not the quietest of fans. I have it on 2 at the moment and I am not sure whether I could sleep through it, but tonight will have to see. Really happy with it though from my first try. Be careful, if it is knocked over it won't stop the water soaking whatever it is on as the top is not secure or watertight.

Good, fair priced cooler. Easy to use and very silent if you use it at night.

Positives: 1. Really does help you to feel cooler - seems to be more effective than some other devices; 2. Small, lightweight, easy to use; 3. Good price compared to some other similar products; 4. Provides a little humidity in hot dry environmentNegatives: 1. Fan rather noisy/ intrusive; 2. Only cools your immediate surroundings when device/ air stream is pointed directly at you - makes no difference at all to the room temperature, or even to the temperature surrounding my desk! 3. You have to clean the small filter at least on weekly basis

Bought this Chillmax to use in my kitchen, if you look at the description and pictures of this you would think its a great machine. Its not and there are much cheaper versions. I though buying JML would be a good choice but no, at almost £40 this 'air cooler' is a waste of money. On the first 2 settings its ok (ish) fill with water and a bit of ice then you get a reasonable amount of cool air, its as noisy as an ordinary fan but as it does not oscillate this air is only in one direction - although you can move the flaps up and down. The 3rd setting is so noisy for not a lot more air cooling, not only is it more noisy it also rattles at this setting making it too loud to sleep with and far too loud for the amount of output you get. I contacted JML about this and they said that its normal for the 3rd setting to be so loud but I could if I wanted send it back to be tested. Also the more you use it then the water as you can see from my photo starts to collect on the flaps and then drip onto the surface - it should have a little drip tray - would make all the difference. I am not happy with this, very expensive for what it is and poor design. The only good feature is you can dishwash the filter but so far haven't done that yet.

Good item I have a few of these Great in the Summer to Cool me Down. After putting filter in Freezer , works very well.

Superb, three speed levels, easy to use, not overpoweringly cold. Fits perfectly on my coffee table for a direct cold breeze. Not cheap, but much better than a fan.
