I want to instill in him a moral compass that makes him do good because it's the right thing to do
Let me begin by saying I was very on the fence and undecided about introducing the EOTS to my almost 3 year old this upcoming Christmas. I have mixed feelings about it. I don't want to teach him that you only behave for the sake of getting gifts. I want to instill in him a moral compass that makes him do good because it's the right thing to do, not because of a reward at the end or because someone is watching. Christmas is materialistic enough with Santa without bringing elves into it too. And let's face it, whether my son is naughty or nice, he's still getting gifts on Christmas. I also didn't want to take on another task; I've seen the elaborate set-ups that people do and there's no way after the crazy hectic long days I have that I'm doing that! Post-bedtime is MY TIME. Not to mention that once you commit, you are IN for years and years! Christmas is about giving with magical unconditional love, not giving with strings attached. I also didn't want to have the same traditions as everyone else. So I decided to put my own twist on the EOTS. I wasn't going to buy the $30 kit that includes the book I would never read because it talks about the elf going back and reporting to Santa. So I looked for another elf to use and found this little plush guy! Adorable! And 1/3 of the price - and not exactly like everyone else's. On December 1st, I'm going to wrap him up in a box and pretend like the mailman brought it to my son from the North Pole. With it will be a letter from Santa saying that this is a magic elf and every night he flies back to the North Pole to get a special message from Santa. The next morning, the elf will be in a new place in the house with a special message from Santa to do a Christmas craft, watch a Christmas show, read a Christmas book, go sledding, donate a toy, visit an animal shelter, bring cookies to the police station, decorate the tree, go to Church, hang mistletoe, go see Christmas lights, go on a sleigh ride, make an ornament, etc for the 25 days of Christmas! So he'll be a little different than the original EOTS and he'll come with a different message, but the idea of finding him every morning and the magic of Christmas will be there. :)

Excellent (touchable) addition to Elf on a Shelf!
For Christmas 2015 we decided to do Elf on a Shelf for our almost 3 year old. I knew he was going to want to touch the Elf so I quickly began searching for an alternative to go along with the non-touchable Elf, and was extremely happy to see such a thing existed. There seemed to be a few of these types where you could touch the elf but I decided on this particular one, The Elf on the Shelf Plushee Pal and I could not have been happier. He is a great size and my son loved him. He slept with him every night and held him pretty much all the time for the 20+ days we had him. We gave him a different name from the Elf on a Shelf but kept reiterating that he was a friend of the Elf on a Shelf and when the real Elf on a Shelf went back to the North Pole for the year, this touchable Elf on a Shelf had to go too. That was probably the tricky part... getting my son to part with him and not sleep with him the night of Christmas Eve. It wasn't super easy for him to part with him but he managed, and while he asked about him Christmas morning, he hasn't asked about him since. The material is nice, he is very soft and lovable. I know one of the questions I had before buying this if his hands were attached to his legs and they are not. However, the hands are attached to themselves and my son very quickly "broke" the attachment. I liked the hands apart anyways so this didn't brother me at all but if you want them to stay together, I would refrain from any sort of tugging between the hands. Otherwise, love, love, love this and I know my son will be SUPER excited to see him again this December!

My son loved it!
My son asked for santa to bring him his very own elf on the shelf so he could play with him all year long. This was the perfect soft plush! He loved it!

Fun Gift for the Grandkids!
We have two grandsons who are obsessed with the Elves on the Shelf at Christmas time. Unfortunately, the boys are so sad when the elves have to return to the North Pole until next Christmas. Then I found these adorable plushy elves! They seem huge compared to the other elves and are super cute. The boys now have a cute elf to keep them company all year long. High quality fabric and vivid colors, these are NICE. Cute gift at a very fair price.

great elf on the shlef! not creepy like the plastic one!!
first IGNORE the lady who said the tag said "this is not elf on the shelf" that is INCORRECT!! the tag actually says" based on the book the elf on the shelf" I have the boy & the girl & the tage r the same! next you CAN actually go on the elf on the shelf website & register these elves the same as the little ones in thebook: there you name the elf, & can print out adoption certificates & personalized letters from Santa saying he is happy that ___elf's name___ will living in your house until Christmas BLah BLah..... they are slightly weighted in the feet & bottoms so you can sit them up & pose them not sure how the weight compares to the plastic ones, but it is easy to pose the plush ones. the faces are way cuter than the plastic ones!! we didnt read the actual book just a sample from it on my nook, (it gave the just of the story)just not the details like you cant touch them so we were able to customize the story to our needs, i will allow the kids to hold them during our nightly christmas activity they just do not sleep with them of course, because they have to go report to santa. my kids are ok with that (they r not big on sleepign with toys anyway) I would suggest these over the plastic ones especially for younger kids toddlers & preschoolers!

Just as it looks in the picture. Nice and soft, pliable legs that sit well on the shelf. I think the face of this elf is nicer than the smaller version that comes with the book. Our young son thought that one was creepy, and said he wanted an elf he could cuddle. So we have our own version of the story, where he can be touched, and our son loves him.
